Ralf Schreiber & Uwe Schüler: Radionica // Workshop: Tin-Can Motor Kalimba

🇭🇷 · Radiona · deborah

Nakon izrade slijedi zajedničko istraživanje njegovih zvučnih mogućnosti, različitih načina sviranja i eksperimentalnih ritmičkih struktura. document.createElement('video'); https://radiona.org/wp-content/uploads/2026/09/motor-kalimba.mp4 Za sudjelovanje nije potrebno prethodno znanje elektronike. Prijaviti se možete do četvrtka, 1. listopada 2026. točno u podne preko poveznice: https://forms.gle/PDqdcbFEUoRjU91i6 Kotizacija iznosi 15 EUR i svoj rad nosite kući. O voditeljima: Uwe Schüler , inženjer elektronike, voli razvijati elektroničke i elektroakustične zvučne objekte i glazbene instrumente, kao i svjetlosne objekte. Njegovi objekti, akcije i radionice uvijek kritiziraju potrošačko društvo i nude mu alternative kroz korištenje recikliranih materijala i „uradi sam“ pristupa. Također mu je važno da su veće skupine sudionika uključene u umjetnički proces rada u duhu socijalne skulpture. Tijekom godina izlagao i održavao edukaciju na mnogim inozemnim festivalima poput: Transmediale Berlin, Ars Electronica Linz, Shift Festival Basel, Camp, Tinguely-Museum Basel, Interfiction Kassel, Stuttgarter Filmwinter, DIY festivali u Zürichu i Dresdenu, NoBudget-Medienfestival Tübingen, Homemade Labor Schweiz, Kunstuni Linz, HfG Karlsruhe, Lab30 Augsburg, FEZ Berlin i mnogim drugim. O voditelju: Njemački medijski umjetnik i haker Ralf Schreiber radi s elektronikom, motorima, mikrofonima i malim zvučnicima. Web: https://ralfschreiber.com/ Podrška: Grad Zagreb / Ministarstvo kulture i medija Republike Hrvatske / Zaklada Kultura nova //////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////// Radiona.org invites you to the Tin-Can Motor Kalimba workshop led by Ralf Schreiber and Uwe Schüler (Germany) on Friday, 2 October 2026, from 6 PM at Radiona . Tin-Can Motor Kalimba is an electromechanical instrument designed for experimenting with sound, rhythm and repetitive structures. It consists of a tin can, wires, a gear motor and a contact microphone, together with control electronics that allow the motor speed and microphone gain to be adjusted. During the workshop, we will first solder the control electronics onto a pre-prepared circuit board and then assemble the mechanical parts of the instrument. Once the instrument is completed, we will explore its sonic possibilities together, experimenting with different playing techniques and repetitive rhythmic structures. No prior knowledge of electronics is required. You can apply until Thursday, 1st October 2026 at exactly 12 noon via the following link: https://forms.gle/PDqdcbFEUoRjU91i6 The participation fee is EUR 15 , and you will take the instrument you make home with you. About the workshop leaders: Uwe Schüler is an electronics engineer who enjoys developing electronic and electroacoustic sound objects and musical instruments, as well as light-based objects. His objects, actions and workshops critically engage with consumer society and propose alternatives through the use of recycled materials and DIY approaches. It is also important to his practice that larger groups of participants become involved in the artistic process, in the spirit of social sculpture. Over the years, he has exhibited and led educational programmes and workshops at numerous international festivals and institutions, including Transmediale Berlin, Ars Electronica Linz, Shift Festival Basel, CAMP, Museum Tinguely Basel, Interfiction Kassel, Stuttgarter Filmwinter, DIY festivals in Zurich and Dresden, NoBudget Medienfestival Tübingen, Homemade Labor Switzerland, Kunstuniversität Linz, HfG Karlsruhe, Lab30 Augsburg, FEZ Berlin and many others. German media artist and hacker Ralf Schreiber works with electronics, motors, microphones and small loudspeakers, creating kinetic sound and light installations as well as electronic music. His work takes a playful and experimental approach, focusing on minimal robotics, random processes and self-sustaining systems. He often uses small solar cells as a power source to explore low-energy processes that transform light into movement and sound. His installations are deliberately minimal, with sounds that are often very quiet and movements that sometimes take place at the edge of perception. He is also an advocate of open hardware and regularly leads workshops in which he shares circuit concepts and construction plans for his works. At the centre of his long-term artistic practice is the multi-year project Living Particles , an autonomous audio-kinetic installation consisting of ever-changing constellations of solar-powered, interactive miniature robotic modules. He graduated from the Münster Academy of Art and continued his studies at the Academy of Media Arts Cologne. His work has been presented in numerous exhibitions in Germany and internationally. Ableton Sessions with Paul @ Radiona

🇭🇷 · RADIONA · deborah

With the arrival of autumn, Paul Grandjean invites anyone interested in music production to new sessions at Radiona. These sessions are designed to explore the ways you want to create music – whether it’s techno, ambient, experimental, or something else entirely. Ableton is merely a tool; the real focus of the sessions is you and your sound. Dates: 15th and 22nd October 2026. Illustration: Paul Grandjean (cc) A place to experiment with sound, make things weird, record, and figure out what kind of music you actually want to make. Whether it’s : Techno, ambient, dub, experimental, noise, or something that doesn’t really have a name. Ableton is just the tool. We’ll explore sampling, synthesis, sound design, resampling and more using tools such as Sampler, Simpler, Operator, Analog, Collision, as well as some of my favorite plugins, tricks and creative workflows. We’ll dig into sounds, tear them apart, process them, resample them and build them back into something else. You’ll start building your own sample library, while discovering different ways to make sounds feel more alive, strange, heavy, deep, broken or simply your own. And somewhere in all of this, we’ll work on the most important part: Learning how to listen. Not learning Ableton for the sake of knowing Ableton — but using it to get closer to the sound you have in your head. Groups stay small. No fixed formula, no race to finish a syllabus. We can spend more time on what actually interests you, experiment together, and follow the direction your music takes. Before we start, I’ll ask you for two small playlists: 5 tracks of your all time favorites. + 5 tracks that represent where you’d like to go. I’ll listen to them beforehand and use them to get a feeling for your references, your taste and the kind of territory you want to explore. Free 2-hour introduction To start things off, I’m offering a free 2-hour intro session. Come meet, bring some sounds, open Ableton, make some noise, ask questions, experiment — and see where it goes. No pressure. No need to already know everything. Just bring: • Laptop • Headphones • Motivation Contact Paul for further questions – WhatsApp: 0033685898303 and send your application to adiktivist@gmail.com. The working language is primarily English.

Create donation displays page New page [[File:Donation_display.jpeg|thumb|right|300px|The donation screen]] The '''donation screens''' are the portrait TVs with LED strips around them. There are four of them around the space. Whenever someone donates through [https://donate.noisebridge.net donate.noisebridge.net], every screen updates within a second or two, plays an animation, and the LEDs do something. == What's on the screen == The top shows the most recent donation: how much, what it was for ("General Donation", "Laser Cutter", "Club Maté"...) and when. Below that is a list of the previous 20. New memberships show up too, as "Membership" with no dollar amount. The QR code in the corner says "Scan to show fireworks!" and goes to a $100 donation. === Easter eggs === Certain amounts do special things. Some of them: * Anything with a 69 in it gets a NICE sticker. * $13.37, $133.70, $313.37 - Matrix rain * $4.20, $420 - Snoop Dogg * $17.76, $86.74 - 'Merica * $42.00 - "So long and thanks for all the fish!" * Everything else gets confetti If the new donation is the largest one currently on the screen, the amount gets a rainbow sheen and the LEDs go into a rainbow hyperdrive. Feel free to add more. They live in <code>src/assets/js/alerts.mjs</code> and <code>src/assets/js/effects/</code>. == How it works == Donations go through Stripe. When a payment succeeds, Stripe sends a webhook to the donate portal server, which pushes the donation over a WebSocket to the <code>/alerts</code> page. The kiosk has that page open in a browser. When a donation comes in, the page redraws itself, plays the effect, and tells the LED server on the Pi what to do. If a bunch of donations arrive at once it queues them up and shows one every 15 seconds. There's no internal database. Everything, including the history list, comes from Stripe. The alerts page is behind a password so random people can't open it and trigger the LEDs from their phone. == Hardware == Each of the four displays is: * Raspberry Pi 5, 2GB * NeoPixel strip (WS2812B), 149 LEDs, taped around the edge of the TV * The TV, rotated 90 degrees The Pi boots straight into Firefox in kiosk mode under <code>cage</code> and loads the alerts page. A small watchdog script kicks Firefox back to the page if it ever lands on an error screen. Setup is all Ansible, in the [https://git.noisegarden.nexus/noisebridge/kiosk-provisioning kiosk-provisioning] repo. == The RGB server == The LEDs are driven by <code>rgb-server</code>, a small Bun program that runs on the Pi as a systemd service and listens on <code>localhost:3000</code>. Endpoints: * <code>POST /update</code> - start an animation * <code>POST /reset</code> - LEDs off * <code>GET /</code> - LED count, brightness, whether anything's running === Talking to localhost from an HTTPS page === The alerts page is served from donate.noisebridge.net, but it's running in a browser on the Pi. So the page's JavaScript can just <code>fetch("http://localhost:3000/update")</code> and it reaches the RGB server on the same box. Browsers treat localhost as a secure context, so the HTTPS page is allowed to make a plain HTTP request to it, and the RGB server answers with CORS headers that only allow <code>https://donate.noisebridge.net</code> as the origin. === The animations are shipped as JavaScript === The RGB server doesn't know any animations. The page sends them over, as source code: <syntaxhighlight lang="javascript"> // donate-portal: src/assets/js/effects/led_effects.mjs fetch("http://localhost:3000/update", { method: "POST", body: JSON.stringify({ function: confettiLedFn.toString(), data: { /* rocket positions, colors, whatever */ }, timeout: 5000, // optional, turns off after 5s }), }); </syntaxhighlight> The server runs <code>new Function(...)</code> on the string and then calls it 20 times a second for every LED: The upside is that adding a new light show is just a donate-portal deploy; nobody has to SSH into the Pi. The catch is that the function has to be self-contained. It only gets its four arguments. == Source == * Donate portal (site, alerts page, effects): https://github.com/noisebridge/donate-portal ** <code>src/views/alerts.tsx</code>, <code>src/assets/js/alerts.mjs</code>, <code>src/assets/js/effects/led_effects.mjs</code> * Pi provisioning and rgb-server: https://git.noisegarden.nexus/noisebridge/kiosk-provisioning
