Repair can be intimidating if you haven’t done it before, and the hardest part often is getting started. It’s easier with support!Do you hate to throw things out when they break? Are there any repair skills that you want to learn or teach others?
Join us to collectively diagnose and fix broken objects, share skills, and build intergenerational, community-based knowledge. We’re interested in helping each other gain confidence in the act of repair to prevent our belongings from going to the landfill, and thinking critically about where our things come from.
People bring a wide variety of items to events, including lamps, chairs, mugs/plates, clothes and more. Think small, portable items (no large appliances, bicycles or couches).

When: Saturday, August 01, 2 PM - 5 PM. Doors will close at 2:30 pm

We invite every attendee to answer these questions:
What’s broken in your life that you want to repair? Describe it and how it is broken.Does your repair require specific tools or parts? Do you have them?Are you interested in helping others with their repairs? If so, what skills would you like to share (e.g. soldering electronics, sewing fabrics, woodworking skills, understanding mechanisms)?Please be sure to fill out the RSVP form completely. This helps us to prepare for the event. If you do not fill out the form, we will assume the RSVP was by mistake and cancel the ticket.

In this workshop, we’ll sew a very simple soft circuit with conductive thread to light an LED. The techniques we use in this class are great building blocks to use for your own projects in the future! This is designed as a beginner introduction to both electrical circuits and sewing – no experience with either necessary to join. Supplies will be provided and attendees will get to keep their project.This is designed for beginners! No experience needed, and all supplies will be provided.
Your Instructor:
Kay is a multidisciplinary artist, educator, and creative technologist based in Brooklyn, NY. They are a graduate of NYU’s Interactive Telecommunications graduate program, where they focused on wearable electronics. Kay has been working as a freelance costume designer, drag performer and event producer since 2018, and their costume work has been seen onstage at Bonnaroo, House of Yes, King of Drag, and on ‘Whatcha Packin’ for RuPaul’s Drag Race S16.
This is a masks optional event.

No previous experience is required, making this introductory workshop a great choice for anyone who's curious about getting started with hardware tinkering! All materials will be provided.

Well, this make-a-long is for you! Learn how to use a Logan Mat Cutter to cut a beveled window in mat board to make your art and photos look professional. Mat board and foam board backing will be provided (frames will not be provided).
Mat board provided will be 11x14 inches, so please bring one image that is around 8x10 inches. Mat cutter will be available to use after the class on our regular public nights.
This class will be lead by Resistor member, Olivia. She is the founder of www.makephilia.com, a femme forward workshop series for learning skills in electronics and materials. As a photogrpahy major at RIT she cut soooo many matts, so many.

Learn how to make books that lay flat with a cool drum leaf binding technique in this fun, hands-on workshop.A drum leaf bound book is one where each spread is a single folded sheet, glued along its back to the sheet next to it, with no sewing and no press required. The result opens completely flat. Because nothing is stitched through the fold, an image can run across the center of a spread without a break, which makes this the natural structure for risograph, screen print, photography, and anything coming off a plotter.
In one evening you will build a complete book: fold and collate a text block, glue it up, and case it in with a quarter cloth cover and a throwback spine. Boards come precut on the laser, so all of our time goes into the structure itself.
We will also look at the two folded page structures drum leaf descends from, the Japanese album and the butterfly book, so you can see why the assembly works the way it does.
No bookbinding experience needed. All materials provided. Bring printed pages of your own if you have them (5.5 × 8.5 inches, folded to 5.5 × 4.25 inches) and bind your own work instead of blank paper.This workshop is taught by Woody Poulard who is an artist/musician of Haitian descent who creates audio-reactive visual installations, generative art, and sculptural works alongside lifelong instrumental practice in saxophone and percussion. His visual practice spans digital and physical mediums including pen plotting, risograph printing, and poster design, creating tangible artifacts from algorithmic and generative processes.


This is a masks optional event.

How to set up a file for cutting on the laser cutter in Inkscape or Adobe Illustrator.Laser cutter safety including materials testing.Laser cutter operation including configuration, cuts and raster etching in common materials like wood, acrylic, cardboard and others.At the end of class, you will go home with:

Learn how to be safe while using the laser cutter! We have a 150W, CO2 laser cutter with a 3 x 4 ft bed. This training is required to use the laser cutter because we don't want people setting our most expensive equipment donation on fire. You have to do this training even if you were trained at the old space, as we have different safety features now.

* Dangers of the laser cutter
* How to be safe
* How to put out a fire

Each participant will cut a piece of cardboard on the laser cutter while following all the safety steps.

Come to work on your own projects and get some feedback from your fellow woodchucks. We have a planer, drill presses, hand tools, a table saw, and much more!

**starting June 8 we will be taking a break from the intensive power tool trainings provided in previous sessions.** For the next few weeks we want to use wood night as a time for actively working on projects and designing ideas for your projects. Happy to help with some guided use of the tools, but for now no full training will be offered. If you are new to the woodshop you are still welcome to join, just know that we will not provide a full training on the tools. If you have significant experience using a Tablesaw, mitre saw, planer etc then this should not be an issue.

We do have some scrap wood available, but bringing some wood for your project, especially if it is larger or more crafty, is highly encouraged. We recommend getting your wood at Lowe’s (cheaper) Discount builders supply (closer to NB) or Beronio (higher quality and carry lots of hardwoods). Please feel free to ask questions on the discord if you are unsure about what to get for your project.

Welcome to CTF Tuesdays! Come join, we welcome players of all levels. Our event is focused on discussing and focusing on specific challenges and inviting discussion about past challenges.

We’re making a goal to select a new challenge every week for members to try their hands at until next meeting. From there we compare our approaches and show those who struggled how to achieve the solution. If you’re new, feel free to follow along we’ll help you out. After Challenge talk is out of the way we encourage members to do a sort of show and tell about their CTF related endeavors. We try to pick a new challenge at the end of the meeting, but we may pick one and work on it a bit if there isn’t anything to share.

If you are a seasoned vet or have a project you're working on you're encouraged to share but not required by any means. Good sharing content ideas include interesting CTFs you've completed, unique solutions to old issues, and CTFs that have you stumped. We'll be happy to lend a hand or brain.

FAQ:
What is a CTF?
A Capture The Flag event is one where a system or application is presented to you, using various skills and techniques (sometimes vulnerabilities and exploits) you must retrieve a "Flag" or a string of characters showing you completed the task. Be creative! There's tons of ways to do the same thing!

Do I need to know "IT" or "programming" to do them?
A basic understanding of technology definitely is required but if you're not an IT Pro or if this is your first foray into anything of this nature don't worry! This is to make you get familiar. Being a little lost is part of the journey.

Do I need any paid software?
You shouldn't need any additional software if you have a working computer. MOST operating systems have some way to do just about everything needed in a CTF

What if I don't understand or fall behind?
We try to pick a new challenge every week or two! If you aren't in the know of the current challenge, feel free to join and ask about it and someone will get you up to speed.

Welcome to CTF Tuesdays! Come join, we welcome players of all levels. Our event is focused on discussing and focusing on specific challenges and inviting discussion about past challenges.

We’re making a goal to select a new challenge every week for members to try their hands at until next meeting. From there we compare our approaches and show those who struggled how to achieve the solution. If you’re new, feel free to follow along we’ll help you out. After Challenge talk is out of the way we encourage members to do a sort of show and tell about their CTF related endeavors. We try to pick a new challenge at the end of the meeting, but we may pick one and work on it a bit if there isn’t anything to share.

If you are a seasoned vet or have a project you're working on you're encouraged to share but not required by any means. Good sharing content ideas include interesting CTFs you've completed, unique solutions to old issues, and CTFs that have you stumped. We'll be happy to lend a hand or brain.

This event comes to you at no charge! However, donations are encouraged. We would not be here without the All Hands Active makerspace which operates on donations. All donations go to operating costs and improvements to the space. Donation link below.

FAQ:
What is a CTF?
A Capture The Flag event is one where a system or application is presented to you, using various skills and techniques (sometimes vulnerabilities and exploits) you must retrieve a "Flag" or a string of characters showing you completed the task. Be creative! There's tons of ways to do the same thing!

Do I need to know "IT" or "programming" to do them?
A basic understanding of technology definitely is required but if you're not an IT Pro or if this is your first foray into anything of this nature don't worry! This is to make you get familiar. Being a little lost is part of the journey.

Do I need any paid software?
You shouldn't need any additional software if you have a working computer. MOST operating systems have some way to do just about everything needed in a CTF

What if I don't understand or fall behind?
We try to pick a new challenge every week or two! If you aren't in the know of the current challenge, feel free to join and ask about it and someone will get you up to speed.

Now including space inductions, held starting at 19:00. They typically last about an hour and a half but we suggest you allow for 2 in case of a delayed start of people with a lot of questions<br><br><b>IMPORTANT - BE ON TIME</b><br>A recent change in building security policy means that doors are to be kept closed after 6pm, if the induction is already in full swing when you arrived it may well have progressed beyond ear shot of the door.<br>Our space inductions contain important information related to accessing and using the space, and therefore you are required to have done the ENTIRE induction to become an active member. Plan to be there for 7pm on the dot and if you are going to be a little late, contact us before 7 and we may be able to delay starting to accomodate you.<br><br>Regular weekly meetups for members (or invited guests of a signed-up member to be responsible for them) - come along to check out the space & what we're about, to help with setting up the space, or for a general catch up!<br>

Pot & Switch: Build a 6-voice oscillator synth from salvaged components

A TWO-DAY workshop for building your own analog synthesizer in a small box or tin. E-waste gives each synth its own unique sound and style.In this TWO-DAY workshop series, “Pot &amp; Switch”, participants will be guided through the process of building their own analog synthesizer.

Instead of using all new materials, we will be salvaging as many potentiometers (knobs) and switches as we can from e-waste to create the interfaces of our synthesizers, resulting in each person’s synth being unique in its sound and playability.

We will be using a CD40106 IC chip to breadboard a 6-voice oscillator circuit to which we will be connecting our found components, then we will house this all in a small box or tin. We will provide tins and boxes for you to choose from, or feel free to bring your own if you have one that you specifically want to use!

As always, NO EXPERIENCE NECESSARY!
This class is for anyone interested in hardware hacking, electronic music, e-waste salvation, and creative technology!

The Disengineering Society is a hardware hacking collective and a publisher of educational materials. Their textbooks reimagine educational literature through idiosyncratic construction and site-specific applications. Disengineering’s publications go hand-in-hand with their widely offered workshops that emphasize chaos, destruction, electronic screeches, and a devout commitment to combating “planned obsolescence”.
This is a masks optional workshop.
