Repair can be intimidating if you haven’t done it before, and the hardest part often is getting started. It’s easier with support!Get over that hump with the help of Repair Cafe NYC!
We’re a group of DIYers who love fixing things! (And we’re also on Discord!)
Repair Cafe NYC organizes events where we collectively diagnose and fix broken objects, share skills, and build intergenerational, community-based knowledge. We’re interested in helping each other gain confidence in the act of repair to prevent our belongings from going to the landfill, and thinking critically about where our things come from.
People bring a wide variety of items to events, including lamps, chairs, mugs/plates, clothes and more. Think small, portable items (no large appliances, bicycles or couches).

At check out you will be asked these questions:
What’s broken in your life that you want to repair? Describe it and how it is broken.Does your repair require specific tools or parts? Do you have them?Are you interested in helping others with their repairs? If so, what skills would you like to share (e.g. soldering electronics, sewing fabrics, woodworking skills, understanding mechanisms)?Please be sure to fill out the RSVP form completely. This helps us to prepare for the event. If you do not fill out the form, we will assume the RSVP was by mistake and cancel the ticket.

Zusammen kochen, danach Infotainment schauen und vorab beim essen schonmal locker über das Thema der heutigen Sendung/-en quatschen.

Wir schauen entweder "Die Anstalt", oder "Fun Facts". Öffentlich, politisch, informativ, gemeinschaftlich und kostenlos. Verpflegung darf gerne beigetragen werden.

"Die Anstalt" im ZDF ist die altbekannte Polit-Satire Sendung, früher unter dem Namen "Neues aus der Anstalt". "Fun Facts" ist ein neues unabhängiges Format auf funfacts.de und beschreibt sich selbst so:

"Fakten haben es nicht leicht in den sozialen Medien. Da helfen wir nach. Fun Facts. […] Bekannte Faktenfans präsentieren humorvoll und konstruktiv, was wirklich wichtig ist […]. Die Hosts wechseln täglich, denn Fun Facts ist ein Gemeinschaftsprojekt.

Woody Poulard (aka GRNCH) is a Brooklyn-based artist/musician whose work focuses on generative audio-reactive visual installations and performances. He uses creative coding applications like TouchDesigner to generate real-time visuals, Blender for 3D design, and Ableton for music production. Trained in both audio and mechanical engineering, Woody also makes physical sculptures using digital fabrication techniques like 3D printing, laser cutting, and CNC routing. GRNCH’s visuals use elements of abstract, futuristic, and hypnotic scenery, often paired with his signature sound: dark, cinematic, suspenseful techno and broken beat.

Join us after our weekly meeting to talk to member, Brett Pipitone, about his artistic endeavors with robotics!
 
As an engineer, Brett Pipitone creates art using modern maker-space tools and materials. Using work incorporating natural aging processes on metals and wood Pipitone is deepening his own understanding of the interplay between memories, nostalgia, and the impacts of technology on human relationships.His current body of work, "The Affable Automaton Project", uses the parasitic nature of the consumer tech landscape as a backdrop to discuss what it means to be human today. Drawing inspiration from life as a 90’s teenage hacker and an over consumption of counter-culture science fiction, aA pieces incorporate black-lights, florescent plastics, and interactive elements to achieve playful looking works that explore dark truths. Brett will discuss his journey into the art world, his methods, and his motivations.

In this hands-on workshop, you'll learn how to use a soldering iron safely and effectively, and get plenty of practice with both soldering and de-soldering techniques. We'll be soldering up some Game of Life kits - LED tiles that generate nifty animations. No previous experience is required, making this introductory workshop a great choice for anyone who's curious about getting started with hardware tinkering! All materials will be provided.

The following items are optional if you'd like to try cutting a simple custom design. If your file ends up being too complicated, we may have you do the class default project first, just to learn the laser in the time allotted - but we'll definitely help you with your more complex cut at a free Craft Night in future!
An SVG vector file of a simple shape you'd like to cut for your first cut.A piece of 1/8 inch or thinner wood, acrylic or cardboard you'd like to cut. If you can't bring your own material, small pieces will be made available, or larger pieces for purchase on site.Please be on time for the start of class! If you're late you will miss your slot.

In this workshop, we’ll cover the basics of the process and walk through each step of creating a screen. Using vinyl stencils, we’ll quickly make screens and print custom designs onto t-shirts. You’ll get a chance to practice setting up, inking, and pulling prints, and by the end, you’ll have your own shirt to take home.
If you’d like, you can bring a simple vector design (think bold shapes and clean lines) to use for your screen. Otherwise, we’ll have some designs ready for you to choose from. No prior experience is necessary—just bring your creativity and a t-shirt you’d like to print on. New shirts can also be purchased during the workshop.

This workshop will be taught by two instructors:
Woody Poulard is an artist/musician of Haitian descent who creates audio-reactive visual installations, generative art, and sculptural works alongside lifelong instrumental practice in saxophone and percussion. His visual practice spans digital and physical mediums including pen plotting, risograph printing, and poster design, creating tangible artifacts from algorithmic and generative processes.

Mean Gene is a member at NYC Resistor, an anti-surveillance advocate, an artist, designer, printmaker, and the head of product at a small cybersecurity startup

This is a masks optional event.
As with all NYC Resistor events, this class is 18+ and governed by our Code of Conduct. The Code of Conduct, as well as accessibility information, can be found at www.nycresistor.com/participate/

Learn how to make a pinhole polaroid camera with stuff you can find around the house, but don&#39;t worry, we&#39;ll provide all the materials.Together we will make pinhole cameras from two cans. Cans will be provided. You can use this camera with 4x5 film or polaroids or long exposure non silver based emulsion. We will also make a light tight film changing bag from opaque garbage bags and duct tape. Garbage bags will be provided. If you love making equipment from trash you will love this class. We will discuss long exposure reciprocity failure, light metering apps, and how a pinhole camera works.

Практика: всем участникам надо будет сделать по «коробочке» над аэродромом в хорошую погоду: взлёт, набор высоты, четыре разворота на 90°, посадка. Делать это будем на стандартной MSFS Cessna 172 с G1000.

Harness the power of an Xtool Fiber Laser! In this class you&#39;ll learn everything you need.Learn to Use a Fiber Laser Cutter to Etch Your Own Designs in MetalIn this class you'll learn everything you need to know to make the ideas in your head become a reality with a fiber laser.In this three hour class, you will learn:- How to set up a file for fiber laser etching in Inkscape or Adobe Illustrator.- Fiber laser safety including materials testing.- Fiber laser operation including configuration, focus, and etching on common metals like stainless steel, aluminum, brass, and others.At the end of class, you will go home with:- One etched metal project, either the class default or a simple one of your own design (see below for details)- Resistor Laser Certification, enabling you to use our fiber laser on Craft Nights.Please bring the following to class:- A laptop with either Inkscape (free: download here: https://inkscape.org/release/inkscape-1.2.1/) or Adobe Illustrator installed.- A USB jump drivePrerequisite: You must have completed our CO2 Laser Safety class before taking this course. If you haven't taken it yet, you will be asked to do so before attending. Sign up early to secure your spot in both.The following items are optional if you'd like to try a custom design. If your file ends up being too complicated, we may have you do the class default project first, just to learn the laser in the time allotted — but we'll definitely help you with your more complex etch at a free Craft Night in future!
- An SVG vector file of a simple design you'd like to etch.- A metal item you'd like to etch (tumbler, keychain, tag, etc.). If you can't bring your own material, small pieces will be made available, or larger pieces for purchase on site.

Come bring your current crafting project and work on it with other artists, crafters, and makers of all kinds.
