Pot & Switch: Build a 6-voice oscillator synth from salvaged components

A TWO-DAY workshop for building your own analog synthesizer in a small box or tin. E-waste gives each synth its own unique sound and style.In this TWO-DAY workshop series, “Pot & Switch”, participants will be guided through the process of building their own analog synthesizer.

Sun Oct 5 6-9pm

Instead of using all new materials, we will be salvaging as many potentiometers (knobs) and switches as we can from e-waste to create the interfaces of our synthesizers, resulting in each person’s synth being unique in its sound and playability.

We will be using a CD40106 IC chip to breadboard a 6-voice oscillator circuit to which we will be connecting our found components, then we will house this all in a small box or tin. We will provide tins and boxes for you to choose from, or feel free to bring your own if you have one that you specifically want to use!

As always, NO EXPERIENCE NECESSARY!
This class is for anyone interested in hardware hacking, electronic music, e-waste salvation, and creative technology!
Your instructor:
The Disengineering Society is a hardware hacking collective and a publisher of educational materials. Their textbooks reimagine educational literature through idiosyncratic construction and site-specific applications. Disengineering’s publications go hand-in-hand with their widely offered workshops that emphasize chaos, destruction, electronic screeches, and a devout commitment to combating “planned obsolescence”.
This is a masks optional workshop.

Wir treffen uns um ca. 20:30 davor im Augarten und werden auf 145,5625 MHz QRV sein. Ihr könnt auch gerne vorbeischauen, aber bitte warme Kleidung anziehen :)

Achtung: bei Schlechtwetter wird der Termin abgesagt! Wird im Matrix Channel bekannt gegeben.

Een hackerspace is een plek waar techniek op ongebruikelijke wijze wordt gebruikt. Bitlair opent samen met De Jonge Onderzoekers Amersfoort haar deuren voor iedereen!

De meest voorkomende technieken bij Bitlair zijn o.a. elektronica, informatica en CAD/CAM. Zo beschikken we over een set 3D-printers, een plotter, een zelfgebouwde lasersnijder en elektrotechnische meetapparatuur.

Er is een grote variëteit aan disciplines onder onze deelnemers, een aantal van hen zullen hun projecten tentoonstellen en hier over vertellen. Enkele voorbeelden zijn een lichtgevende kubus, animaties gebaseerd op pure wiskunde, domoticasystemen, 3D-printers en geprinte kunstwerken, lasershows en informatiebeveiliging.

We will discuss long exposure reciprocity failure, light metering apps, and how a pinhole camera works.

Laser Cutter Safety Training

Noisebridge Hackerspace
Learn how to be safe while using the laser cutter! We have a 150W, CO2 laser cutter with a 3 x 4 ft bed. This training is required to use the laser cutter because we don't want people setting our most expensive equipment donation on fire. You have to do this training even if you were trained at the old space, as we have different safety features now.

Training covers
* Dangers of the laser cutter
* How to be safe
* How to put out a fire

Each participant will cut a piece of cardboard on the laser cutter while following all the safety steps.

This is also a good place to ask questions about specific materials or projects. There is a 5$ fee to register, and we suggest a 20-30$ donation for this class: https://donate.noisebridge.net. If the registration fee is a barrier to your participation, please reach out to the event organisers.

Come to work on your own projects and get some feedback from your fellow woodchucks. We have a planer, drill presses, hand tools, a table saw, and much more!

**starting June 8 we will be taking a break from the intensive power tool trainings provided in previous sessions.** For the next few weeks we want to use wood night as a time for actively working on projects and designing ideas for your projects. Happy to help with some guided use of the tools, but for now no full training will be offered. If you are new to the woodshop you are still welcome to join, just know that we will not provide a full training on the tools. If you have significant experience using a Tablesaw, mitre saw, planer etc then this should not be an issue.

We do have some scrap wood available, but bringing some wood for your project, especially if it is larger or more crafty, is highly encouraged. We recommend getting your wood at Lowe’s (cheaper) Discount builders supply (closer to NB) or Beronio (higher quality and carry lots of hardwoods). Please feel free to ask questions on the discord if you are unsure about what to get for your project.

After Challenge talk is out of the way we encourage members to do a sort of show and tell about their CTF related endeavors. We try to pick a new challenge at the end of the meeting, but we may pick one and work on it a bit if there isn’t anything to share.

If you are a seasoned vet or have a project you're working on you're encouraged to share but not required by any means. Good sharing content ideas include interesting CTFs you've completed, unique solutions to old issues, and CTFs that have you stumped. We'll be happy to lend a hand or brain.

Be creative! There's tons of ways to do the same thing!

Do I need to know "IT" or "programming" to do them?
A basic understanding of technology definitely is required but if you're not an IT Pro or if this is your first foray into anything of this nature don't worry! This is to make you get familiar. Being a little lost is part of the journey.

Do I need any paid software?
You shouldn't need any additional software if you have a working computer. MOST operating systems have some way to do just about everything needed in a CTF

What if I don't understand or fall behind?
We try to pick a new challenge every week or two! If you aren't in the know of the current challenge, feel free to join and ask about it and someone will get you up to speed.

DIY Slimy Creatures: an artist talk & workshop

Learn how special effects were made in upcoming sci-fi film Spoon-Fed by Jaime Sunwoo and make your own mini monster with silicone and foam.At this artist talk and hands-on workshop, go behind the scenes of Spoon-Fed, an upcoming sci-fi short film by NYC Resistor member Jaime Sunwoo, and discover how its creatures and special effects were brought to life.
Handle original puppets and masks from the film, watch behind-the-scenes footage, and learn how creatures are developed from concept to execution. Then, just in time for spooky season, make your own mini monster using silicone and foam in this beginner-friendly workshop.
All materials included, no experience necessary.

About the Artist:
Jaime Sunwoo (she/her) is a multidisciplinary artist from New York City working in film, art, and animation. Her animated short documentary Equality Tea was featured in Vogue and Whetstone Magazine. Her film Handwritten premiered at Lincoln Center for New York Asian Film Festival and is streaming on Amazon Prime Video in Fantastic New Worlds: A Handmade Puppet Dreams Collection. Her New York Times featured production Specially Processed American Me received support from BRIClab, NYC Women's Fund, The Jim Henson Foundation, Queens Council on the Arts, Asian Women Giving Circle, Brooklyn Arts Fund, and The Laundromat Project. Her short film Ommatidia, co-created with neuroscientist Sromana Mukherjee at NYU's Desplan Lab, premiered at the Science New Wave Festival and is streaming on Labocine. Welcome to CTF Tuesdays! Come join, we welcome players of all levels. Our event is focused on discussing and focusing on specific challenges and inviting discussion about past challenges.

We’re making a goal to select a new challenge every week for members to try their hands at until next meeting. From there we compare our approaches and show those who struggled how to achieve the solution. If you’re new, feel free to follow along we’ll help you out. After Challenge talk is out of the way we encourage members to do a sort of show and tell about their CTF related endeavors. We try to pick a new challenge at the end of the meeting, but we may pick one and work on it a bit if there isn’t anything to share.

If you are a seasoned vet or have a project you're working on you're encouraged to share but not required by any means. Good sharing content ideas include interesting CTFs you've completed, unique solutions to old issues, and CTFs that have you stumped. We'll be happy to lend a hand or brain.

What is a CTF?
A Capture The Flag event is one where a system or application is presented to you, using various skills and techniques (sometimes vulnerabilities and exploits) you must retrieve a "Flag" or a string of characters showing you completed the task. Be creative! There's tons of ways to do the same thing!

Do I need to know "IT" or "programming" to do them?
A basic understanding of technology definitely is required but if you're not an IT Pro or if this is your first foray into anything of this nature don't worry! This is to make you get familiar. Being a little lost is part of the journey.

Do I need any paid software?
You shouldn't need any additional software if you have a working computer. MOST operating systems have some way to do just about everything needed in a CTF

What if I don't understand or fall behind?
We try to pick a new challenge every week or two! If you aren't in the know of the current challenge, feel free to join and ask about it and someone will get you up to speed.

Einmal im Monat haben wir unser Plenum, in dem wir über div. Themen sprechen über die wir als Gemeinschaft entscheiden wollen. Gäste sind herzlich willkommen!

Da Donnerstags meistens auch gekocht wird haben wir entschieden das Plenum zu beginnen wenn das Essen auf die Teller kommt. Das hilft bei der Sache zu bleiben und gleichzeitig schnell mit dem Plenum "durch" zu sein. Sollte mal nicht gekocht werden geht es um ca. 20 Uhr los.

In this hands-on workshop, you'll learn how to use a soldering iron safely and effectively, and get plenty of practice with both soldering and de-soldering techniques. We'll be soldering up some Game of Life kits - LED tiles that generate nifty animations. No previous experience is required, making this introductory workshop a great choice for anyone who's curious about getting started with hardware tinkering! All materials will be provided.

In this three hour class, you will learn:
How to set up a file for cutting on the laser cutter in Inkscape or Adobe Illustrator.Laser cutter safety including materials testing.Laser cutter operation including configuration, cuts and raster etching in common materials like wood, acrylic, cardboard and others.At the end of class, you will go home with:
One laser cut project, either the class default or a simple one of your own design (see below for details)Resistor Laser Certification, enabling you to use our laser on Craft Nights.Please bring the following to class:

Pracujemy nad własnymi projektami - np. ktoś frezuje radiator do komputera aby mógł w nim zmieścić rezystor dużej mocy, składa małego satelitę "CanSat" na konkurs, a w kolejnym siedzimy i rozmawiamy na wszelkie tematy w przyjaznej, aczkolwiek geekowej atmosferze.

Każdy! Nie ma znaczenia czy jesteś elektronikiem hobbystą, spawasz zawodowo, czy też chciałbyś się jedynie dowiedzieć jak równo powiesić półkę - miło będzie nam Ciebie gościć.

Zdecydowanie nie, chętnie Cię oprowadzimy, pokażemy co robimy, porozmawiamy, może się czymś zainspirujesz.

Będziemy w hackerspace co najmniej do północy - NightHack nie jest ustrukturyzowanym wydarzeniem, więc godzina o której przyjdziesz nie ma znaczenia.

== Co zrobić po dotarciu na miejsce? ==

Jeśli jesteś pierwszy raz to poszukaj organizatorów - najlepiej spytaj o nich pierwszą napotkaną osobę.

== Czym jest Hackerspace? ==

Hackerspace to przestrzeń stworzona i utrzymywana przez grupę osób, które łączy fascynacja ogólnopojętym tworzeniem w duchu kultury hackerskiej. Przestrzeń stymuluje rozwój projektów między innymi organizując i użyczając potrzebnych narzędzi stwarzając warunki do wzajemnej nauki. Monthly Amateur Radio club meeting of NYCResistorRadio curious? Join the NYC Resistor Ham Radio Club (call sign N2YCR) for our open and regular meetings, the 4th Wednesday of each month from 8:00 – 9:30 pm at NYC Resistor (87 3rd Avenue, 4th Floor).
The amateur radio hobby has something for everyone, from Morse code to modern digital modes. Bring projects you're working on, gear to fix, problems that puzzle you, outings you'd like to organize, or just yourself to meet &amp; greet your friendly local hams. Drop by the #n2ycr channel in Discord any time to say hi.
You do not need to be a member of Resistor to be a member of the club, nor do you need to be a licensed amateur radio operator (though of course we hope you'll become licensed with our help).
We aim to create an inclusive, encouraging, and diverse environment to bring together Brooklyn's radio hackers, antenna experimenters, shortwave listeners, toroid winders, satellite chasers, and balloon launchers.
Come make some noise in the weird and wonderful medium of radio!This is a masks optional event.
As with all NYC Resistor events, this class is 18+ and governed by our Code of Conduct. The Code of Conduct, as well as accessibility information, can be found at www.nycresistor.com/participate/.

Jesteśmy dla Was dostępni od 20:00, ale nie musicie wcale przchodzić punktualnie!

== Co robimy na nighackach? ==

Pracujemy nad własnymi projektami - np. ktoś frezuje radiator do komputera aby mógł w nim zmieścić rezystor dużej mocy, składa małego satelitę "CanSat" na konkurs, a w kolejnym siedzimy i rozmawiamy na wszelkie tematy w przyjaznej, aczkolwiek geekowej atmosferze.

== Kto może przyjść? ==

Każdy! Nie ma znaczenia czy jesteś elektronikiem hobbystą, spawasz zawodowo, czy też chciałbyś się jedynie dowiedzieć jak równo powiesić półkę - miło będzie nam Ciebie gościć.

== Nie mam projektu nad którym mógłbym pracować, czy to problem? ==

Zdecydowanie nie, chętnie Cię oprowadzimy, pokażemy co robimy, porozmawiamy, może się czymś zainspirujesz.

== Czy muszę być punktualnie o 20? ==

Będziemy w hackerspace co najmniej do północy - NightHack nie jest ustrukturyzowanym wydarzeniem, więc godzina o której przyjdziesz nie ma znaczenia.

== Co zrobić po dotarciu na miejsce? ==

Jeśli jesteś pierwszy raz to poszukaj organizatorów - najlepiej spytaj o nich pierwszą napotkaną osobę.

== Czym jest Hackerspace? ==

Hackerspace to przestrzeń stworzona i utrzymywana przez grupę osób, które łączy fascynacja ogólnopojętym tworzeniem w duchu kultury hackerskiej. Przestrzeń stymuluje rozwój projektów między innymi organizując i użyczając potrzebnych narzędzi stwarzając warunki do wzajemnej nauki. Hackerspace nie zna barier, jeśli masz ciekawy pomysł i szukasz ludzi chętnych do współpracy lub po prostu potrzebujesz miejsca i sprzętu - zapraszamy!
