No previous experience is required, making this introductory workshop a great choice for anyone who's curious about getting started with hardware tinkering! All materials will be provided.

Laser Cutter Safety Training

Learn how to be safe while using the laser cutter! We have a 150W, CO2 laser cutter with a 3 x 4 ft bed. This training is required to use the laser cutter because we don't want people setting our most expensive equipment donation on fire. You have to do this training even if you were trained at the old space, as we have different safety features now.

Training covers
* Dangers of the laser cutter
* How to be safe
* How to put out a fire

Each participant will cut a piece of cardboard on the laser cutter while following all the safety steps.

This is also a good place to ask questions about specific materials or projects. There is a 5$ fee to register, and we suggest a 20-30$ donation for this class: https://donate.noisebridge.net. If the registration fee is a barrier to your participation, please reach out to the event organisers.

Come to work on your own projects and get some feedback from your fellow woodchucks. We have a planer, drill presses, hand tools, a table saw, and much more!

**starting June 8 we will be taking a break from the intensive power tool trainings provided in previous sessions.** For the next few weeks we want to use wood night as a time for actively working on projects and designing ideas for your projects. Happy to help with some guided use of the tools, but for now no full training will be offered. If you are new to the woodshop you are still welcome to join, just know that we will not provide a full training on the tools. If you have significant experience using a Tablesaw, mitre saw, planer etc then this should not be an issue.

We do have some scrap wood available, but bringing some wood for your project, especially if it is larger or more crafty, is highly encouraged. We recommend getting your wood at Lowe’s (cheaper) Discount builders supply (closer to NB) or Beronio (higher quality and carry lots of hardwoods). Please feel free to ask questions on the discord if you are unsure about what to get for your project.

Welcome to CTF Tuesdays! Come join, we welcome players of all levels. Our event is focused on discussing and focusing on specific challenges and inviting discussion about past challenges.

We’re making a goal to select a new challenge every week for members to try their hands at until next meeting. From there we compare our approaches and show those who struggled how to achieve the solution. If you’re new, feel free to follow along we’ll help you out. After Challenge talk is out of the way we encourage members to do a sort of show and tell about their CTF related endeavors. We try to pick a new challenge at the end of the meeting, but we may pick one and work on it a bit if there isn’t anything to share.

If you are a seasoned vet or have a project you're working on you're encouraged to share but not required by any means. Good sharing content ideas include interesting CTFs you've completed, unique solutions to old issues, and CTFs that have you stumped. We'll be happy to lend a hand or brain.

What is a CTF?
A Capture The Flag event is one where a system or application is presented to you, using various skills and techniques (sometimes vulnerabilities and exploits) you must retrieve a "Flag" or a string of characters showing you completed the task. Be creative! There's tons of ways to do the same thing!

Do I need to know "IT" or "programming" to do them?
A basic understanding of technology definitely is required but if you're not an IT Pro or if this is your first foray into anything of this nature don't worry! This is to make you get familiar. Being a little lost is part of the journey.

Do I need any paid software?
You shouldn't need any additional software if you have a working computer. MOST operating systems have some way to do just about everything needed in a CTF

Smashing Walled Gardens: Jailbreaking Old iOS Devices

Try hacking existing devices to extend their longevity and limit our own production of e-waste. Non iOS devices also possible to explore.A workshop to jailbreak old Apple devices for reusability in modern livelihoods. Each participant will be requested to bring an old i-device to go through the process of “jailbreaking”. If participants do not have old Apple devices, they are welcome to bring other specific hardwares to experiment with modifications and tooling to get them up and running again (think old phones, media players, game consoles). We will be looking for ways to play around with the existing hardware and re-incorporating them back into serviceable devices. Potential avenues could include: extra screens for an art installation, modded gaming consoles to play lost media, or simply using your old iPod as a music player again.This workshop will also have a discussion on the philosophy of perma-computing, or ways we can hack existing devices to extend their longevity and limit our own production of e-waste. Devices are planned to become obsolete, and it is our job as soft(ware) custodians to maintain, cultivate, and care for these old and forgotten tools.Some sample materials may be provided to practice using these modding tools, but participants are encouraged to bring their own devices.

Need to Bring:
Ideally iOS device with original charger. Happy to experiment with other devices.

Sam Heckle is a bi-coastal educator and artist specializing in ethical software, generative systems, and decentralized network design. They are currently exploring permacomputing through repurposing electronic waste, queer representations in media, and the rituals that bring us back into the algorithmic fold.She currently teaches creative computation and critical media theory at The New School, New York University, Hunter College, and the School of Visual Arts. They are also an active organizer of Destruction Junket, a Brooklyn-based, art collective that creates community from chaos.
This is a pay-what-you-wish event.

We offer no guarantees or liability if our repairs don't succeed, of course: many things were not made to be repaired, and we may not have the necessary tools or expertise to make it work again, in any case. But if your gadgets' next destination would otherwise be the recycler or landfill, we *can* guarantee that we'll give it our best shot -- perhaps it will save you a bit of guilt from trashing them straight away, and perhaps you will learn something new about how to fix the items you own!

You’ll get a chance to practice setting up, inking, and pulling prints, and by the end, you’ll have your own shirt to take home.
If you’d like, you can bring a simple vector design (think bold shapes and clean lines) to use for your screen. Otherwise, we’ll have some designs ready for you to choose from. No prior experience is necessary—just bring your creativity and a t-shirt you’d like to print on. New shirts can also be purchased during the workshop.

This workshop will be taught by two instructors:
Woody Poulard (aka GRNCH) is a Brooklyn-based artist/musician whose work focuses on generative audio-reactive visual installations and performances. He uses creative coding applications like TouchDesigner to generate real-time visuals, Blender for 3D design, and Ableton for music production. Trained in both audio and mechanical engineering, Woody also makes physical sculptures using digital fabrication techniques like 3D printing, laser cutting, and CNC routing.

Mean Gene is a member at NYC Resistor, an anti-surveillance advocate, an artist, designer, printmaker, and the head of product at a small cybersecurity startup

This is a masks optional event.

Bring a song you like, and tell us why you like it (“this just sounds cool!” is perfectly legit). We’ll all listen to it, and have a chance to briefly react to it as a group. Just want to listen? That’s okay too, but don’t be shy! This is a Judgement-Free Zone when it comes to musical taste 🙂.

Think of this like music appreciation (but less formal), or a book club for music (but more spontaneous).

Laser Cutter Safety Training

Noisebridge Hackerspace
Learn how to be safe while using the laser cutter! We have a 150W, CO2 laser cutter with a 3 x 4 ft bed. This training is required to use the laser cutter because we don't want people setting our most expensive equipment donation on fire. You have to do this training even if you were trained at the old space, as we have different safety features now.

Training covers
* Dangers of the laser cutter
* How to be safe
* How to put out a fire

Each participant will cut a piece of cardboard on the laser cutter while following all the safety steps.

This is also a good place to ask questions about specific materials or projects. There is a 5$ fee to register, and we suggest a 20-30$ donation for this class: https://donate.noisebridge.net. If the registration fee is a barrier to your participation, please reach out to the event organisers.

Come to work on your own projects and get some feedback from your fellow woodchucks. We have a planer, drill presses, hand tools, a table saw, and much more!

**starting June 8 we will be taking a break from the intensive power tool trainings provided in previous sessions.** For the next few weeks we want to use wood night as a time for actively working on projects and designing ideas for your projects. Happy to help with some guided use of the tools, but for now no full training will be offered. If you are new to the woodshop you are still welcome to join, just know that we will not provide a full training on the tools. If you have significant experience using a Tablesaw, mitre saw, planer etc then this should not be an issue.

We do have some scrap wood available, but bringing some wood for your project, especially if it is larger or more crafty, is highly encouraged. We recommend getting your wood at Lowe’s (cheaper) Discount builders supply (closer to NB) or Beronio (higher quality and carry lots of hardwoods). Please feel free to ask questions on the discord if you are unsure about what to get for your project.

After Challenge talk is out of the way we encourage members to do a sort of show and tell about their CTF related endeavors. We'll be soldering up some Game of Life kits - LED tiles that generate nifty animations. No previous experience is required, making this introductory workshop a great choice for anyone who's curious about getting started with hardware tinkering! All materials will be provided.

In this three hour class, you will learn:
How to set up a file for cutting on the laser cutter in Inkscape or Adobe Illustrator.Laser cutter safety including materials testing.Laser cutter operation including configuration, cuts and raster etching in common materials like wood, acrylic, cardboard and others.At the end of class, you will go home with:
One laser cut project, either the class default or a simple one of your own design (see below for details)Resistor Laser Certification, enabling you to use our laser on Craft Nights.Please bring the following to class:

Pracujemy nad własnymi projektami - np. ktoś frezuje radiator do komputera aby mógł w nim zmieścić rezystor dużej mocy, składa małego satelitę "CanSat" na konkurs, a w kolejnym siedzimy i rozmawiamy na wszelkie tematy w przyjaznej, aczkolwiek geekowej atmosferze.

Każdy! Nie ma znaczenia czy jesteś elektronikiem hobbystą, spawasz zawodowo, czy też chciałbyś się jedynie dowiedzieć jak równo powiesić półkę - miło będzie nam Ciebie gościć.

== Nie mam projektu nad którym mógłbym pracować, czy to problem? ==

Zdecydowanie nie, chętnie Cię oprowadzimy, pokażemy co robimy, porozmawiamy, może się czymś zainspirujesz.

== Czy muszę być punktualnie o 20? ==

Będziemy w hackerspace co najmniej do północy - NightHack nie jest ustrukturyzowanym wydarzeniem, więc godzina o której przyjdziesz nie ma znaczenia.

== Co zrobić po dotarciu na miejsce? ==

Jeśli jesteś pierwszy raz to poszukaj organizatorów - najlepiej spytaj o nich pierwszą napotkaną osobę.

== Czym jest Hackerspace? ==

Hackerspace to przestrzeń stworzona i utrzymywana przez grupę osób, które łączy fascynacja ogólnopojętym tworzeniem w duchu kultury hackerskiej. Przestrzeń stymuluje rozwój projektów między innymi organizując i użyczając potrzebnych narzędzi stwarzając warunki do wzajemnej nauki. Nightack to wydarzenie w którym uczestniczą osoby zarówno będące aktywnymi członkami hackerspace, jak i te które chciałyby dowiedzieć się jak hackerspace działa i co tutaj robimy.
Jesteśmy dla Was dostępni od 20:00, ale nie musicie wcale przchodzić punktualnie!

== Co robimy na nighackach? ==

Pracujemy nad własnymi projektami - np. ktoś frezuje radiator do komputera aby mógł w nim zmieścić rezystor dużej mocy, składa małego satelitę "CanSat" na konkurs, a w kolejnym siedzimy i rozmawiamy na wszelkie tematy w przyjaznej, aczkolwiek geekowej atmosferze.

== Kto może przyjść? ==

Każdy! Nie ma znaczenia czy jesteś elektronikiem hobbystą, spawasz zawodowo, czy też chciałbyś się jedynie dowiedzieć jak równo powiesić półkę - miło będzie nam Ciebie gościć.

== Nie mam projektu nad którym mógłbym pracować, czy to problem? ==

Zdecydowanie nie, chętnie Cię oprowadzimy, pokażemy co robimy, porozmawiamy, może się czymś zainspirujesz.

== Czy muszę być punktualnie o 20? ==

Będziemy w hackerspace co najmniej do północy - NightHack nie jest ustrukturyzowanym wydarzeniem, więc godzina o której przyjdziesz nie ma znaczenia.

== Co zrobić po dotarciu na miejsce? ==

Jeśli jesteś pierwszy raz to poszukaj organizatorów - najlepiej spytaj o nich pierwszą napotkaną osobę.

== Czym jest Hackerspace? ==

Hackerspace to przestrzeń stworzona i utrzymywana przez grupę osób, które łączy fascynacja ogólnopojętym tworzeniem w duchu kultury hackerskiej. Przestrzeń stymuluje rozwój projektów między innymi organizując i użyczając potrzebnych narzędzi stwarzając warunki do wzajemnej nauki. Hackerspace nie zna barier, jeśli masz ciekawy pomysł i szukasz ludzi chętnych do współpracy lub po prostu potrzebujesz miejsca i sprzętu - zapraszamy!
