In this hands-on workshop, participants will build a low-power mesh-communication node based on the NiceRa designIn this hands-on workshop, participants will build a low-power mesh-communication node based on the NiceRa design — a small form-factor board using an NRF52 (Pro-Micro) microcontroller and an SX1262 radio module. These nodes are ideal for deployment in areas with limited infrastructure — for emergency communications, community networks, or off-grid connectivity. At the end of the session, each participant will have helped build solar-powered nodes that will be donated to front-line communities, and each participant will take home a fully-functioning battery-powered node ready to interact with the wider mesh community.
By the end of the workshop, participants will:
Understand the hardware design of the NiceRa board and how it interfaces with the mesh firmware.
Assemble and wire a node including the microcontroller board, radio module, battery, solar panel, and enclosure.
Configure and flash the mesh firmware (e.g., Meshtastic-compatible) onto the board.
Learn how to configure the node for solar/battery operation (power budgeting, sleep modes, solar trickle charging).
Deploy basic mesh network communications (sending messages, understanding node-to-node connectivity, range considerations).
Gain insight into how these nodes can be used in underserved areas for emergency communications (e.g., disaster backup, off-grid communities, remote areas).
Take home a working node that they built themselves — ready for them (or their community) to deploy.
This event is for makers, tinkerers, engineers, community tech organizers, and anyone interested in emergency communications or off-grid networks.Participants should have some familiarity with electronics and microcontrollers (e.g., soldering, flashing firmware) — but we’ll walk through everything step-by-step, so intermediate skill levels are welcome.Ideal for community-tech groups, local disaster-prep teams, NGOs operating in remote areas, or educational groups working on connectivity challenges. Why This Workshop MattersIn many underserved or remote regions, traditional communication infrastructure (cell towers, internet) may be unreliable or nonexistent — especially during emergencies (natural disasters, power outages). Mesh networks — where each node can relay messages — offer resilience and flexibility. By building solar-powered nodes, we eliminate dependence on mains power and allow deployment in remote and off-grid locations. The NiceRa design is compact, efficient, and well suited for this purpose (NRF52 + SX1262 radio). The workshop empowers participants not just to build hardware, but to understand how to deploy and manage resilient communication networks — creating real-world impact.

We also provide funding for projects to facilitate growth of the amateur radio community. Signals Rising provides funding and educational resources to underserved individuals and communities to receive radio licensing and equipment. We also sponsor research projects to expand the field of amateur radio communication. All solar nodes built will be distributed to the many communities that have put in requests for assistance in setting up meshtastic systems in their regions.

RSVP https://www.eventbrite.com/e/vibe-coding-workshop-build-anything-with-ai-from-simple-tools-to-complex-tickets-1844167507659
Harness AI agents to build functional software through natural conversation - for websites, tools, games, or interactive experiences.Ever wanted to build software but felt overwhelmed by code? Or maybe you're a developer curious about how AI is transforming the development workflow? Welcome to the Vibe Coding Workshop - where you'll learn to harness AI agents to build real, functional software through natural conversation - whether that's websites, tools, games, or interactive experiences. Everyone will leave with a unique project they didn't think they could create - perhaps even a fully functional web app for multiple users. In this hands-on workshop, instructor Noah Eisenbruch will take you from creating simple single-page experiences to building complex, dynamic projects. You'll see what's truly possible through a showcase of diverse vibe-coded creations: games like Weather Worsener (nerktendo.com/weather-worsener), retro interfaces (nerktendo.com), fully functional services with user authentication and updatable profiles (linkp.ee), and investor-ready startup demos (nerktendo.com/domainflip). Have a dream company you've always wanted to start? This is the perfect workshop to bring that vision to life. We'll cover the fundamentals of communicating effectively with AI coding assistants, understanding what they can (and can't) do, learning how to pick the right tool to fit your needs, and mastering how to guide AI toward your vision. By the end, you'll have created a real project - and for those interested, you can work with the instructor after class for help deploying your project to the web with options ranging from free to paid hosting solutions.Whether you're a complete beginner who's never written code, or an experienced developer looking to 10x your prototyping speed, this workshop has something for you. Beginners will leave empowered to build their ideas without traditional coding barriers. Advanced developers will discover prompt engineering strategies, rapid iteration techniques, and tips for collaborating with AI as a thinking partner. Come curious, leave equipped with the skills to turn any idea into reality - all by learning to speak the language of AI.Who is this class for:

Noelle (they/them) is a Broadway costume maker by day and a fiber arts enthusiast by night. Resistor hosts a meetup for the diyaudio.nyc group, and invites anyone to come learn about making your own home audio gear.diyaudio.nyc has regular meetups to share recent DIY projects (speakers, amps, preamps, tubes and solid state - anything home-audio related), as well as talks and demos on related topics and skills (how to solder, how digital crossovers work, fabrication techniques, digital room correction, etc). Building your own gear doesn't have to be a solitary hobby anymore... has regular meetups to share recent DIY audio projects (speakers, amps, DACs, etc - anything home-audio related), as well as talks and demos on related topics and skills (how to solder, how digital crossovers work, fabrication techniques, digital room correction, etc).
This month we have a couple cool speaker projects - one open-baffle design optimized for bars and restaurant use and some small speaker designs optimized to get the most bass out of the smallest box - perfect for a Bluetooth speaker.
Do you have a brief demo you can share? Let us know at diyaudio@gowanusaudio.com and we'll add it to the list.
(If history is any guide, at the end of the meetup some of us will want to keep talking about projects and we'll move to a bar nearby - join us!)
Who should come?
Open to anyone interested in DIY home audio who wants to learn and make some new friends - all experience levels welcome. If you've ever wanted to build any audio gear, we're here for you. (We generally don't focus on production, live sound, musical instruments, or making music, although there certainly is some overlap.)
Note from the organizer, Pete:
I started diyaudio.nyc a couple years ago because I wanted to meet some like-minded folks near me - I knew they were out there. And they are! Thank you for being a part! Let's grow this group! These days, for me, it's all audio all the time - I work as a Buyer for The Music Room buying high end audio equipment, and also offer complete classes to build your own equipment as Gowanus Audio.

Gathering musicians, enthusiasts, and curious minds to connect, collaborate, and share their passion for synthesis. BYO synth encouraged!Join us at NYC Resistor, a makerspace in Brooklyn for an electrifying Synthesizer Night! Get ready to unleash your creativity, explore sonic landscapes, and connect with fellow synth enthusiasts in an evening dedicated to the mesmerizing world of synthesizers. This is a pay-what-you-wish event (recommended donation $8).
Synthesizer Night at NYC Resistor is a celebration of all things synthesizer. Whether you're a seasoned musician, an avid collector, or simply fascinated by the possibilities of electronic sound, this event offers a unique opportunity to gather with like-minded individuals and revel in the captivating soundscape of synthesizers.
At Synthesizer Night, participants are encouraged to bring their own synthesizers, from vintage analog gems to cutting-edge modular wonders. It's a chance to showcase your personal setup, experiment with new equipment, and dive into the rich sonic tapestry that synthesizers offer.
For those looking to enhance the collaborative experience, consider arriving early to connect your synthesizer to a MIDI/CV clock. This allows for synchronized timing among all instruments, creating a seamless musical fusion during impromptu jam sessions.
In addition to the collaborative jam sessions, the event provides a unique opportunity for a show and tell/play with anything that attendees bring. Share your favorite gear, experiment with different setups, and engage in hands-on exploration of various synthesizers and electronic music equipment.
The event unfolds in a relaxed and welcoming atmosphere, providing a platform for musicians, enthusiasts, and curious minds to connect, collaborate, and share their passion for synthesis. Whether you're a beginner seeking guidance or an expert eager to inspire others, Synthesizer Night is the perfect setting to engage in conversations, exchange knowledge, and foster a vibrant community.
Throughout the evening, you'll have the opportunity to engage in impromptu jam sessions, where the collective energy of multiple synthesizers intertwines to create awe-inspiring sounds. Experience the joy of collaborating with fellow musicians, experiment with different genres and styles, and let the unique characteristics of each instrument shape your sonic explorations.
Additionally, for those who wish to showcase their skills and perform, there will be dedicated performance slots. Take center stage, captivate the audience, and let your creativity soar as you demonstrate the full potential of your synthesizer setup. To sign up for a performance slot, email classes@nycresistor.com or join our Discord and post to #synth.
Whether you're an ardent synth enthusiast, an aspiring musician, or simply curious about the captivating world of synthesizers, Synthesizer Night at NYC Resistor is an event that will inspire, educate, and leave you in awe of the boundless possibilities that electronic sound offers. Don't miss this opportunity to immerse yourself in an evening of music, collaboration, and innovation. Mark your calendars, pack up your favorite synths, and join us at NYC Resistor for a night you won't soon forget. We can't wait to see you there!
