A laptop with either Inkscape (free: download here: https://inkscape.org/release/inkscape-1.2.1/) or Adobe Illustrator installed.
A USB jump drive
The following items are optional if you'd like to try cutting a simple custom design. If your file ends up being too complicated, we may have you do the class default project first, just to learn the laser in the time allotted - but we'll definitely help you with your more complex cut at a free Craft Night in future!
An SVG vector file of a simple shape you'd like to cut for your first cut.A piece of 1/8 inch or thinner wood, acrylic or cardboard you'd like to cut. If you can't bring your own material, small pieces will be made available, or larger pieces for purchase on site.Please be on time for the start of class! If you're late you will miss your slot.

Wie in Repair-Cafes üblich: Wir liefern den technischen Sachverstand, Rat und auch Tat. Wir helfen wo wir können – aber du musst selbst Hand anlegen und mitmachen – denn das ist der Grundgedanke der Sprechstunde.

We'll be going through how to start your first fermentation and confirm your SCOBY is growing properly, then how to keep it going for many happy batches. Class registration includes a brief presentation and a jar of Kombucha starter for you to take home! We'll also brainstorm flavors for your first batch and what ingredients are good or bad to use.

This class is open to absolute beginners. Just bring yourself and be prepared to carry a large jar of liquid home with you.

Stefan, your instructor, has been tending to batches of kombucha for almost two years and feeding his current SCOBY in New York for half a year.

Linux läuft dabei auf alten wie neuen Rechnern flüssig – ganz ohne nervige Werbung, versteckte Kosten oder einen KI-Agenten an jeder Ecke. Wir begleiten dich Schritt für Schritt – Vorkenntnisse brauchst du dabei nicht. Komm vorbei und entdecke, wie einfach und umweltfreundlich du deinen Rechner fit für die Zukunft machst!
Mitbringen musst du nur deinen Laptop und eine externe Festplatte mit genug Speicherplatz für ein Backup deiner Daten. Im besten Fall erstelle dieses Backup bereits zu Hause.

In this three hour class, you will learn:
How to set up a file for cutting on the laser cutter in Inkscape or Adobe Illustrator.Laser cutter safety including materials testing.Laser cutter operation including configuration, cuts and raster etching in common materials like wood, acrylic, cardboard and others.At the end of class, you will go home with:
One laser cut project, either the class default or a simple one of your own design (see below for details)Resistor Laser Certification, enabling you to use our laser on Craft Nights.Please bring the following to class:
A laptop with either Inkscape (free: download here: https://inkscape.org/release/inkscape-1.2.1/) or Adobe Illustrator installed.
A USB jump drive
The following items are optional if you'd like to try cutting a simple custom design. Learn the basics of Hydra Video Synth, a visual coding program to make fun interactive graphics!Learn the basics of Hydra Video Synth, a visual coding program to make fun interactive graphics! We’ll experiment with pairing Hydra code with music, a process known as livecoding. Livecoding is a medium &amp; subculture built on community info sharing &amp; open source code development. You can learn it for your own enjoyment, for performance at dance parties and more!

Anyone can do it, no coding experience required.

Each participant will leave with their own custom code that can be used for other projects. Note: We will have a short 10 minute break in the middle of the class for accessibility!

This is a sliding scale workshop, please email us at classes@nycresistor.com for a reduced priced ticket.

Please bring a laptop with Chrome &amp; Firefox browsers downloaded, along with the Youtube link to a song you want to make code inspired by. A tablet with a Bluetooth keyboard &amp; Chrome is also acceptable. If you need a laptop, we can provide one! No coding experience needed.

Sabrina Sims is a Black Puerto Rican bi artist from the Bronx! She loves creating vibrant art and started livecoding in Hydra in 2021. Sabrina performs livecoding as starlybri, in NYC and online. Her teaching artist work focuses on creating accessible art experimentation, especially for other Black queer &amp; disabled people :)

Join us for a hands-on introduction to screen printing! In this workshop, we’ll cover the basics of the process and walk through each step!Join us for a hands-on introduction to screen printing! In this workshop, we’ll cover the basics of the process and walk through each step of creating a screen. Using vinyl stencils, we’ll quickly make screens and print custom designs onto t-shirts. You’ll get a chance to practice setting up, inking, and pulling prints, and by the end, you’ll have your own shirt to take home.
If you’d like, you can bring a simple vector design (think bold shapes and clean lines) to use for your screen. Otherwise, we’ll have some designs ready for you to choose from. No prior experience is necessary—just bring your creativity and a t-shirt you’d like to print on. New shirts can also be purchased during the workshop.

This workshop will be taught by two instructors:
Woody Poulard (aka GRNCH) is a Brooklyn-based artist/musician whose work focuses on generative audio-reactive visual installations and performances. He uses creative coding applications like TouchDesigner to generate real-time visuals, Blender for 3D design, and Ableton for music production. Trained in both audio and mechanical engineering, Woody also makes physical sculptures using digital fabrication techniques like 3D printing, laser cutting, and CNC routing.

Mean Gene is a member at NYC Resistor, an anti-surveillance advocate, an artist, designer, printmaker, and the head of product at a small cybersecurity startup

ArduTouch is an Arduino-compatible music synthesizer kit with a built-in touch keyboard and built-in speaker/amplifier. Build it, and it works! It’s super affordable, yet powerful, and comes pre-programmed with “Thick,” a 4-voice sawtooth synth that delivers phat, layered sounds right out of the box.
Along the way, we’ll cover the basics of how it all works, including an introduction to Digital Signal Processing (DSP) for total beginners. Once your synth is built (and we guarantee it will work—whether you finish during the session or at home later), you’ll get to explore its sound-shaping potential.
The fun doesn’t stop there: the ArduTouch also comes with an Arduino library packed with features and a collection of amazing example synths. With 10 different synthesizers available—from lush pads and drones to glitchy noise, sequencers, and psychedelic textures—you’ll have endless sonic worlds to explore.
To wrap things up, we’ll walk through how to reprogram your ArduTouch so you can load new synths or even start designing your own instruments. For those who want to go further, the included documentation is a gentle introduction to DSP and audio generation.

NYC Resistor is open to the public for Craft Nights every Monday and Thursday from 6:30-9:30 PM! Come bring your current crafting project and work on it with other artists, crafters, and makers of all kinds. Resistors do everything from costumes to electronics to visual arts to woodworking; people and crafting projects of all sorts are enthusiastically welcome. We are a proactively inclusive space, and prioritize creating opportunities for the whole community to engage with our events, across all identities of race, creed, ethnicity, age, religion, gender, gender identity, sexual orientation, physical appearance, and ability; please read our Code of Conduct to familiarize yourself with our community's values before attending.

Halloween im Netz39 🎃

Es wird wieder schaurig-schön!
Am 31. Oktober ab 16 Uhr (open end) feiern wir im Netz39 unsere Halloweenparty – mit Punsch, leckerem Essen & Kürbiskuchen.
Außerdem könnt ihr euch an unseren Löt-Geister-Platinen versuchen, mit uns quatschen, basteln, spielen und einfach einen gemütlichen Abend verbringen.
Vielleicht gibt’s eine Runde "Werwölfe von Düsterwald" oder zum Abschluss einen Gruselfilm – je nach Lust und Laune! 🎬
Eingeladen sind alle – Kinder, Erwachsene, Mitglieder & Neugierige!
Kostüme sind natürlich sehr willkommen.
Kommt vorbei und feiert mit uns – wir freuen uns auf euch! 🎃
