Wir erklären Dir, warum Glasfaser oft die bessere Wahl gegenüber Ethernet oder Telefonleitungen ist und welche Herausforderungen dabei auftreten können. Anschließend zeigen wir Dir praxisnah, wie Du Stecker an Glasfaserleitungen spleißt, um superschnelle Netzwerke zu realisieren. Have you always wanted to learn to make crochet creatures? Do you love ridiculous monsters to keep you company? Come and we'll teach you how to crochet as well has provide finished monster bodies and everything to make your monster come to life. So no matter how speedy you crochet, you'll bring home a finished monster!
Are you a beginner? We'll provide yarn, crochet hooks, tons of monster eyes and accessories, and lots of inspiration!
Are you a master? Show off your skills and inspire others! Bring a project, use our materials, and hang out in a great space while doing what you love.

You'll learn the basics of breadboards and electrical components like buttons, resistors, capacitors, and the 555 Timer Chip. By the end of the session, you'll assemble your own circuit and take home a working mini piano that makes fun beeping and booping sounds!

Who it's for:
For anyone who is interested in making an analog circuit that makes noise.

Hi I'm Gracy! I received my master's from NYU's ITP program in 2023 and recently completed a post-graduate residency focused on physical computing. While I enjoy working with sensors and motors in my own projects, I’ve helped students with a wide range of physical computing projects and feel excited to see people create with circuits. This summer, along with my former classmate Priyanka Makin and fellow resident Bianca Gan, we created and taught the Beep Boopers workshop.

This is a masks optional event.

Build and Program a 3D LED Pixel Array

Learn how to build and program an open source Volumetric LED Pixel Array using Addressable LEDs and TouchDesigner.Volumetric / 3D LED pixel arrays are mesmerizing to watch and interact with. However, the few commercial options available are expensive and not easily accessible for artists to acquire. This workshop introduces a "path of least resistance" solution to building a low cost 3D Pixel Array from readily available hardware and easy fabrication methods most people should have access to. It also teaches how to map and create content for it using the RayTK raymarching tool in TouchDesigner.
Two Days: Saturday, Oct 12 &amp; Sunday Oct 13 - 10AM-5PM (with 1 hour breaks for lunch from 1-2PM)
During Day 1 we will build the arrays from a kit, learn a little about networking, and get the LEDs lit up with WLED.During Day 2 we will map the arrays using TouchDesigner, animate content, and have some time for experimentation.Some touchdesigner experience is necessary. You can do the 10 topics in the 101 section of classes on the Derivative website if you haven’t had prior experience in TouchDesigner and you will know enough to take the class.https://learn.derivative.ca/courses/100-fundamentals/Please bring a laptop that can run TouchDesigner, a three-button mouse, and if your computer does not have an ethernet port, bring a USB to Ethernet adapter.
Your Instructors:
Jennifer Deafenbaugh is a User Experience designer, sculptural fabricator, and aerial dancer who plays with the intersection of objects, space, animation, dance and interactivity. Her recent work explores the intersection of structure and light art. She is a community organizer, presently co-leading the Boston Tech Poetics meetup group in Boston, Massachusetts, USA. Jennifer teaches with The LightHouse in Los Angeles, CA, USA.Pete Thornbury is a lighting designer and programmer, working primarily with TouchDesigner in the live event production industry on LED PixelMapping and Lighting Console / Show Control Integration. He has worked on a wide variety of light and video based projects from small personal art sculptures to large corporate conventions, Conferences, eSports events and architectural installations. Pete runs the LightHouse at the Brewery in Los Angeles, CA

No previous experience is required, making this introductory workshop a great choice for anyone who's curious about getting started with hardware tinkering! All materials will be provided.

In this three hour class, you will learn:
How to set up a file for cutting on the laser cutter in Inkscape or Adobe Illustrator.Laser cutter safety including materials testing.Laser cutter operation including configuration, cuts and raster etching in common materials like wood, acrylic, cardboard and others.At the end of class, you will go home with:
One laser cut project, either the class default or a simple one of your own design (see below for details)Resistor Laser Certification, enabling you to use our laser on Craft Nights.Please bring the following to class:

Harness the power of an Epilog 60 Watt Laser! In this class you'll learn everything you need.Harness the power of an Epilog 60 Watt Laser! In this class you'll learn everything you need to know to make the ideas in your head become a reality with a laser.
In this three hour class, you will learn:
How to set up a file for cutting on the laser cutter in Inkscape or Adobe Illustrator.Laser cutter safety including materials testing.Laser cutter operation including configuration, cuts and raster etching in common materials like wood, acrylic, cardboard and others.At the end of class, you will go home with:
One laser cut project, either the class default or a simple one of your own design (see below for details)Resistor Laser Certification, enabling you to use our laser on Craft Nights.Please bring the following to class:
A laptop with either Inkscape (free: download here: https://inkscape.org/release/inkscape-1.2.1/) or Adobe Illustrator installed.
A USB jump drive
The following items are optional if you'd like to try cutting a simple custom design. If your file ends up being too complicated, we may have you do the class default project first, just to learn the laser in the time allotted - but we'll definitely help you with your more complex cut at a free Craft Night in future!
An SVG vector file of a simple shape you'd like to cut for your first cut.A piece of 1/8 inch or thinner wood, acrylic or cardboard you'd like to cut. If you can't bring your own material, small pieces will be made available, or larger pieces for purchase on site.Please be on time for the start of class! If you're late you will miss your slot.
This class will be taught by NYC Resistor member Katie. As with all NYC Resistor events, this class is 18+ and governed by our Code of Conduct. The Code of Conduct, as well as accessibility information, can be found at www.nycresistor.com/participate/.
