When the Milwaukee Makerspace was new, we relied on donations and hand-me-downs for a lot of our equipment.  In 2015, member Tom Gondek lent us a ULS V460 laser that he had used for one project.  That project happened to be cutting PVC!  It was his laser, so he can do what he wants with it.  So when we received the laser, it was pretty corroded.  We ended up buying this laser off of him after it caught fire.  Very surprisingly, this did not make the V-460 inoperable.  It chugged away through a…

Der Frühling naht und so soll das well-staffed-Treffen, am 7. März 2025, ab 16 Uhr für einen Frühlingsputz genutzt werden. Dabei soll entrümpelt, aufgeräumt und geputzt werden, sodass der Hackerspace wieder frisch ins neue Jahr starten kann.

Freiwillige sind dazu herzlich eingeladen. Nach der Aufräumaktion soll der Abend gemütlich ausgeklungen werden.

It is with sadness that I report that Warren Bumgarner has died.  Warren was a Charter Member of FCW, joining within the first week of organization.

Warren had an MS in Industrial Arts from Appalachian State and taught Machine Shop at CCC&TI, then at WPCC.  He was proficient in both manual and CNC machining, expert at MasterCAM, and was valuable in the Machining area at FCW.  Handy with many things, Warren also helped with the wiring and wall construction at the previous space,

2024 war ein unerwartet ereignisreiches Jahr für uns. Ohne Vorwarnung wurde uns unsere Hauptfinanzierungsgrundlage entzogen. Allerdings folgte danach ein Ansturm der Zuwendungen, der uns sehr berührt hat und zu der Entscheidung geführt hat, weiterzumachen. Insbesondere die vielen Spenden haben es uns ermöglicht, die schwierige Zeit abzufedern. Die vielen neuen Beitritte, die unsere Mitgliederzahl fast verdoppelt haben, machten uns Hoffnung, dass es auch ohne Werbeeinnahmen weitergehen könnte.…

Den 12 januari höll föreningen ett möte för intresserade medlemmar. Mötet handlade om ägandet av lokalen, som nu har köpts av vårt eget företag UMS Service AB, men även om möjligheten att eventuellt köpa också våningen ovanför. Ungefär 25 personer var med i lokalen, och tre ytterligare digitalt på länk.

Alla som blir labbmedlemmar är med i en kö för att få en plats för en egen förvaringslåda i hyllorna innanför metallverkstaden. Sedan medlemsförvaringen blev full införde vi ett kösystem.  Nu uppdaterar vi rutinen.

Rick Michaels has produced another Neon project.  In this project he wanted to accent major shapes of the Titanic to make it more than just a poster.

Some details:
Red gas-> Neon (Ne)
Blue gas -> Argon+Mercury (ArHg)
Glass: 10mm clear tubing, 10mm 6500 Snow White coated tubing, 8MM clear gold tubing

The water accent is clear glass filled with ArHg and the boot stripe (bottom stripe on a boat) is filled with Ne.
