Steampunk Rocket Ship Papercraft Workshop – 9/20

CRASH gives “space exploration” a whole new meaning with our September 20th crafting workshop, run by Francesca from Ink & Paper Apothecary: We’re making custom rocket ships out of hand-inked paper…AND THEY LIGHT UP!! SIGN UP HERE This workshop is open to all; no experience is necessary. All tools, materials, and guidance will be provided, and participants will leave with a completed greeting card or art piece. Supplies are thoughtfully sourced to give you plenty of fabulous options to play with, including shimmering inks, iridescent vellum, high-quality cardstock, and the all very best sparkles. This project offers a lovely mix of technical detail and satisfying sensory experience—something for everyone! All Ink & Paper Apothecary workshops are designed around these core principles: accessibility and inclusion – collaborating to create safety and find solutions for all participants and their unique needs (cognitive, mobility, energy and focus management, or other) individual expression – providing an array of options that invite every crafter to make something that speaks to them no fail states – setting up choices and processes to minimize frustration (or “bad outcomes”), and celebrating experimentation community – appreciating the collaborative, connected experience of creating together

Complete our Meet a Maker Q&A and share your story with the community. Name: Andee Wilcott Year joined: 2018 Website: armediastudio.com Andee’s Making Journey What do you make? Lots of things! I’m probably the most skilled at sewing as it’s been a lifelong hobby taught to me by my grandma when I was little. I also enjoy making beaded jewelry, paper crafts, graphic design, cooking, etc. Honestly, I’m always up for trying something new or seeing a cool idea and figuring out how to make it myself. Is making a hobby, a business, or a little of both? A bit of both 🙂 I own a small digital agency with my husband, so I create websites and logos professionally. IRL making is for fun. What inspired you to get into making? I was always encouraged to build, craft, make and be “creative”. I feel like I’ve been making things my whole life either out of joy or neccessity. Lowell Makes What brought you to Lowell Makes? We moved to Lowell and my husband, Rudy, immediately got a membership. I trailed a bit before signing on, but after seeing everything Lowell Makes had to offer and the people there I came on board. What’s your favorite thing about being a member? Hands down, the people. There is such an amazing community at LM. All of the makers and artists are so generous with their time and knowledge. Whenever I’m there I learn something from someone. Has being a Lowell Makes member changed your process? If so, how? Yes, it’s made me more collaborative. I’m used to doing my own thing and just figuring stuff out. I’ve learned so much and tried so many new things because of the folks at LM. Looking Ahead What are you working on right now? Right now I’m working on graphic design for our entry in the Kinetic Sculpture Race. Soon, we’ll be constructing the “art” part of the sculpture. What do you hope to make, learn, or accomplish next? I have this gorgeous plaid silk tweed that I bought ages ago and never knew what to do with. I think a waistcoat-style vest.
