Hypnotic Camera Papercraft Workshop – 7/18

🇺🇸 · Crash Space · Alicen Lewis

PURCHASE TICKETS HERE Gather with friends old and new to make a striking piece of custom camera-themed paper art! All are welcome; no previous experience is necessary, and Francesca (Ink & Paper Apothecary) will provide all the tools, materials, and guidance needed. Supplies are carefully sourced and intended to offer a lush sensory experience—this time, we’ll have shimmering and color-shifting inks, iridescent foil, velvet paper, and other thoughtful details. The workshop debuts a brand-new Ink & Paper Apothecary design, with an iris folding component presented in partnership with our friends at Pretty in Paper by B. Participants will have the choice of making their project into a three-dimensional greeting card or frame-ready art piece. This workshop features some innovative techniques you won’t find anywhere else. To accommodate the technical complexity of the project, some elements will be pre-made for each participant—early registration is encouraged so you can submit any desired customization! Ink & Paper Apothecary workshops are designed around these core principles: accessibility and inclusion – collaborating to create safety and find solutions for all participants and their unique needs (cognitive, mobility, energy and focus management, or other) individual expression – providing an array of options that invite every crafter to make something that speaks to them no fail states – setting up choices and processes to minimize frustration (or “bad outcomes”), and celebrating experimentation community – appreciating the collaborative, connected experience of creating together PURCHASE TICKETS HERE

We are the hook so in this class, you will learn to be a tool of the craft. in this class, students will be taught a finger-crochet method of a basic chain, how to start a new row, a beginner-friendly stitch with two modifications, and how to join two pieces together. With these skills acquired, we will work together to make a foundational piece that can be worked into a scarf, headband or small bag or pouch. The class will be 2 hours though it is possible to complete the course in less time depending on what you’re working on, how fast you catch on and how fast your hands move though this isn’t a race and this craft is especially more of a meditative take your time practice. This class is for anyone interested in learning how to finger-crochet. It is beginner friendly if you’re new to fiber art but experience in crocheting with a hook will give some a familiarity with some aspects like what a chain in/looks like The class is taught by NYC artist Lo. Lo is a New York City–based artist whose creative practice spans many disciplines, from singing to crochet. Working with her hands has been a lifelong passion, rooted in her upbringing in South Carolina, where she learned to braid hair alongside her mother and grandmother. That foundation naturally evolved into fiber arts, leading her to explore finger-knitting for several years and, more recently, finger-crochet. Along the way, she also spent time needle-knitting and briefly practiced traditional hook crochet. Since beginning her finger-crochet journey in March, Lo has developed a deep connection to the craft and finds joy in sharing her work and creative process with others. This is a MASK REQUIRED event. As with all NYC Resistor events, this class is 18+ and governed by our Code of Conduct. The Code of Conduct, as well as accessibility information, can be found at www.nycresistor.com/participate/ .
