Robotics Classes for Kids in Toronto

🇨🇦 · Maker Kids · Samantha Dinelle

June 11, 2026 | MakerKids Team Parents across Toronto are looking for activities that combine creativity, technology, and real-world learning. That is one reason robotics programs continue to grow in popularity. MakerKids offers robotics classes for Kids in Toronto that combine coding, engineering, and hands-on STEM projects they are genuinely excited about. For many students, robotics feels different from traditional extracurriculars because they actively create, test, and improve their ideas in real time. Instead of simply following instructions, kids use coding, electronics, and engineering concepts together to make something move, react, or solve a challenge. Why Robotics Continues to Grow in STEM Education Robotics has become one of the fastest-growing areas of STEM education because it naturally combines multiple skills into one activity. Kids are introduced to coding, problem-solving, design thinking, and logical reasoning all at once. In Toronto, more parents are searching for robotics classes because they want programs that feel both educational and engaging. Robotics strikes a strong balance between creativity and structure, helping many students stay interested longer than they might in more traditional learning environments. This is especially important for younger learners. Many kids grasp concepts more quickly when they can physically interact with what they are building rather than just seeing it on a screen. Hands-On Projects Keep Kids Engaged One reason robotics programs work well for kids is the immediate feedback. When students change code and instantly see a robot respond, learning feels exciting and interactive. At MakerKids, students work with beginner-friendly robotics technology, including micro:bit systems, sensors, motors, lights, and other interactive components. Classes are designed around guided projects that help students gradually build confidence while still leaving room for creativity. Some students enjoy the engineering side of robotics. Others become interested in coding through robotics because they can immediately see the results of their work. This combination helps different types of learners stay engaged. Many MakerKids students also explore related STEM areas, such as Minecraft , Python , AI concepts, and 3D design, as they progress through the programs. A Different Kind of After-School Program Parents often compare robotics programs to sports, music lessons, or tutoring. Robotics offers something unique: students are constantly building and experimenting rather than repeating the same activity each week. In many classes, kids work through challenges together, test different solutions, and improve their projects over time. This collaborative environment helps students build communication and teamwork skills naturally while staying focused on technology and STEM learning. MakerKids classes are intentionally kept in small groups with live instructors so students can receive support while still working independently on projects. This structure helps beginners feel comfortable while giving returning students opportunities to further develop their skills. What Toronto Parents Are Saying Parents who enroll their kids in MakerKids robotics classes often describe a shift in how their children talk about learning after school. Several Toronto parents have noted in recent Google reviews that MakerKids has become one of their child’s favourite places for after-school programs and camps. One parent described their daughter loving everything from robotics to Minecraft and 3D printing, adding that she always comes home eager to share what she built and learned that day. Another parent mentioned their son attended classes the previous year and is already signed up to return, noting he made new friends, picked up real skills, and had a great time throughout. That pattern – kids coming home wanting to talk about what they built – is one of the most consistent things MakerKids families mention. When students are actively creating rather than passively following along, the learning sticks. Read more MakerKids reviews on Google. Robotics and the Ontario Coding Curriculum Another reason robotics classes are becoming more popular in Toronto is the growing connection between technology and learning in schools. Ontario schools now introduce coding and computational thinking concepts starting in elementary grades. Robotics helps reinforce many of these ideas in a more interactive format. Younger students begin exploring sequencing and simple logic systems. Older students progress into conditional statements, debugging, sensors, and more advanced coding concepts. Because robotics combines software and hardware, students often gain a deeper understanding of how technology works. Robotics helps students develop computational thinking, problem-solving, engineering design, and teamwork skills. 2025 meta-analysis found that robot-based education produces significantly higher academic achievement, computational thinking, and motivation in students compared to traditional classroom methods ( Nature, 2025 ).” For many families, robotics programs help bridge the gap between classroom learning and real-world application. Finding the Best Robotics Classes for Kids in Toronto Not every robotics class is designed the same way. Parents should look for programs that prioritize live instruction, beginner-friendly learning, and opportunities for kids to actively build projects themselves. At MakerKids, robotics classes are available for different age groups across Toronto, including locations in Leaside and Bloor West , along with programs in Mississauga and virtual options for families looking for additional flexibility. Whether a child is completely new to STEM or already interested in coding and robotics, the goal is to make learning approachable, creative, and fun from the very beginning. If you are looking for robotics classes for kids in Toronto, MakerKids offers beginner-friendly programs that combine robotics, coding, Minecraft, and STEM education for Grades 1-8. Frequently Asked Questions What age can kids start Robotics classes at MakerKids? MakerKids robotics classes are available for students in Grades 1-8, divided into three age groups. Younger students start with beginner-friendly guided projects, while older students progress into more advanced coding and engineering concepts. Do kids need any prior experience to join? No prior experience is needed. Programs are grouped by age and skill level, so complete beginners feel comfortable from the first class. What technology do students use in Robotics classes? Students work with micro:bit systems, sensors, motors, and lights. Projects are hands-on and designed to show immediate results when students adjust their code. How is Robotics different from a regular coding class? Robotics combines physical hardware with coding, so students can see and interact with the results of their work in real time. A robot responding to code is more immediate than a result on a screen. Where are MakerKids Robotics classes available? Classes run at the Leaside and Bloor West locations in Toronto, Mississauga , and virtually for families who prefer online learning.

Foto galerijas no radošā procesa jauniešu centros, iespējams aplūkot darbnīcas DARE Facebook profilā. Projektu īstenoja Valmieras Attīstības aģentūras, Valmieras koprades darbnīca DARE . Projekts tiek finansēts no LEADER programmas “Jauniešu iniciatīvas”, Eiropas Savienības Eiropas Lauksaimniecības fonda lauku attīstībai ietvaros atbilstoši biedrības “No Salacas līdz Rūjai” SVVA stratēģijai 2023.-2027. gadam un 2023. gada 10. oktobra Ministru kabineta noteikumiem Nr.580 Valsts un Eiropas Savienības atbalsta piešķiršanas kārtība Eiropas Lauksaimniecības fonda lauku attīstībai intervencē “Darbību īstenošana saskaņā ar sabiedrības virzītas vietējās attīstības stratēģiju, tostarp sadarbības aktivitātes un to sagatavošana” aktivitātē “Vietējās ekonomikas stiprināšanas iniciatīvas” un “Kopienu spēcinošas un vietas attīstību sekmējošas iniciatīvas”. 3D Printing for Kids: What Parents Need to Know

🇨🇦 · Maker Kids · Samantha Dinelle

June 10, 2026 | MakerKids Team Parents today are looking for activities more enriching than passive screen time. 3D printing classes for kids have become one of the fastest-growing areas in STEM education – the global market for 3D printing in education was valued at $1.24 billion in 2024 and is projected to reach $5.38 billion by 2033 ( MarketIntelo, 2025 ). At MakerKids, students use Tinkercad design software and FDM 3D printers to turn their ideas into physical objects they can hold, test, and improve. For many families, 3D printing sounds highly technical at first. In practice, most kids are designing and printing their first project within the first class. What Age Can Kids Start 3D Printing? Most children are ready to start 3D printing around age 7-8 (Grades 2-3), once they can navigate basic software and follow multi-step instructions. At MakerKids , 3D printing is available to students in Grades 1-8. Younger students start with guided projects in Tinkercad, where shapes are drag-and-drop and measurements are visual. Older students move into more complex structural and mechanical designs. Kids do not need any prior experience to begin. What a 3D Printing Class Actually Looks Like Students design in Tinkercad, a free browser-based CAD tool built for beginners. They work with geometric shapes, combine and subtract them, add text, and adjust dimensions before sending a file to print. MakerKids uses FDM (fused deposition modelling) printers – the most common type, which build objects layer by layer from plastic filament. Students can see the printer working in real time, which makes the connection between digital design and physical output immediate and concrete. A typical first project – such as a custom keychain – takes one 60-minute class to design and a print time of 20-40 minutes, depending on size. More complex projects like simple machines, enclosures, or interlocking parts span 2-3 sessions as students iterate and refine. Why 3D Printing Fits STEM Learning 3D printing quietly covers a lot of ground. While designing a project, kids are applying geometry, spatial reasoning, and measurement. When a part doesn’t fit together correctly, they troubleshoot, adjust tolerances, and reprint – the same iterative process engineers use professionally. Research by Trust & Maloy (2017) found that students working on 3D printing projects developed measurable gains in creativity, technology literacy, critical thinking, and perseverance – skills that extend well beyond the printer. These problem-solving skills tie directly into Ontario’s STEM and coding curriculum , which emphasizes computational thinking and design iteration from elementary grades onward. 3D printing also connects naturally with other MakerKids programs . Students who build redstone machines in Minecraft often want to print components from their builds. Robotics students design custom mounts and enclosures for their sensors and motors. Who It Works Well For 3D printing suits a wider range of learners than most parents expect. Kids who enjoy drawing, building with Lego, or designing in Minecraft tend to take to it quickly. Students who find traditional coding abstract often find a clearer entry point through 3D design, because the output is tangible. A 2021 study found that students using 3D-printed models scored statistically higher on achievement measures than peers in traditional instruction groups after just nine weeks – a finding that held across different learning styles. Class sizes at MakerKids are kept small so instructors can support students through the design process individually. Beginners get guided project templates; returning students tackle open-ended briefs where they design from scratch. Frequently Asked Questions What software do kids use? Tinkercad, a free browser-based design tool from Autodesk. No downloads required. Kids can access their designs from any computer. What kind of 3D printer does MakerKids use? FDM printers using PLA filament – durable, safe, and the industry standard for beginner and educational settings. How long does a project take? Simple projects (keychains, badges) finish within one 60-minute class plus print time. Multi-part or mechanical designs typically take 2–3 sessions. Does my child need to know how to code first ? No. 3D printing at MakerKids is entirely visual – no prior coding knowledge required. It works well as a standalone program or alongside coding and robotics classes. Which programs offer 3D printing ? MakerKids offers 3D printing through camps & PA Days at Leaside , Bloor West , and Mississauga locations. If you’re exploring STEM programs, coding, robotics, or 3D printing classes for kids in Toronto or Mississauga, contact MakerKids at info@makerkids.com or call 416-385-3577. Everyone is expected to follow the Anti-Harassment Policy, please familiarize yourself with it.) For approachable & specific guidelines see: [[Community Standards]] Please note: '''https://safespace.noisebridge.net/ is one way to quickly raise issues which will be seen by people in Discord.''' == Brief Kudos == '''WZ:''' Derek put the wall up in the bath room so folks can use the downstairs restroom with a sense of privacy. '''Daniel:''' Derek also started scrubbing the floor in the break area '''WZ:''' Micahel Newman has been working hard making the sewing guild more usable. '''Jet:''' Michael Newman gets another kudos for helping friend debug something '''Daniel:''' Elan farted on a racist = Consensus Items = '''Heather:''' Live page about consensus process contains expired language. Text posted on discord. https://www.noisebridge.net/wiki/Consensus_Process#Our_Version_of_Consensus the language in questoin: ``` Blocking big C consensus item requires 2 members provisionally august 29th 2023. At which time we can will consense again. Non member, big C consense items must be unanimous. New membership must be unanimous. Any member can place a 1 week hold to give time for second blocker to come forward. Big C consensus items must be posted somewhere everyone can see, hackatorium or general channels. ``` '''Heather:''' This unanimous sentences seem to be redundant given the consensus process. '''Elan:''' There was a change (that has since sunsetted) that required two people to block which means that something could pass with a single block. '''JD:''' The language was there for a reason, ie. people were blocking without giving reasons. '''Jet:''' This isn't really a big-C item but more of a consultation to clarify. '''LX:''' some things on the wiki are expired and should be saved if they need to be used again, I label them instead of purging them. '''Daniel:''' We have version control ==== Access Member requests === '''Marian:''' Recently moved to the city. Like building things. Into philanthropy. '''Jet:''' would be comfertable kicking someone out? '''Marian:''' Yes, what is the limit to that? '''Jet:''' If someone is kicking and screaming you dont have to do anything crazy '''Marian:''' Cool '''Drynn:''' I finished making the sock at 5 am and would have had to leave if not access member. '''Jet:''' Would you ever sleep at nb? '''Drynn:''' thats what the car is for. '''Julius:''' Less than a month is very quick to gain access memebership, One of the things we need is consistancy from members before gaining memebership. '''Jeremy:''' Been coming for th past 3 months, Looking for the lazer machine, Heard about the place a few years ago. I would like to gain access because id like to come in the mornings. '''Michael Newman:''' Is there any particular area of the space you are interested in? '''Jeremy:''' I use laser quite a lot and clean up the area. Interested in woodshop. Usually here 2 - 3 hours '''Jet:''' Any objections? * no objections* '''Victor:''' Been in and out for few years. More active in last few months. Would like to host some meetups, particularly on nixOS. '''Jet:''' What do you think about noisebridge? '''Victor:''' Amazing I love it. '''Newman:''' What could be better about nb? '''Victor:''' Maybe more diversity '''Jet:''' Any objections? * no objections * '''Azael:''' Looking for memebership, Ive been coming for about two years. Im interested in learning about 3d printing and new python meetups. '''Jet:''' Why do you want access membership, are you trying to come later or ealier? '''Azael:''' Yes, i wasnt sure if it was open everyday in the afternnon. '''Jet:''' have you ever been to a tuesday meeting '''Azeal:''' This is my first '''Daniel:''' We can give you a 30 day card '''Jet:''' This is ment to give you access in the morning 9am - 9pm, dont let people in and youre not supposed to close the space. Jet well get you the 30 day card '''Jet:''' Current access case of ATL - Potea - He '''Juliius:''' He rang the doorbell asking for some binders that he's left behind '''Heather:''' This is the second or third time this has happened '''Jet:''' would like to cover what has happened and what we would like to do about. '''Heather:''' He has a habit of being found unconcious. Apparently sleeping in the space. Has been found sleeping numerous times. Has been ATL'd before. A 1 day ATL and a 3 day ATL. Saturday found him sleeping in the space. I ATL. While packing up to leave, and asked if he could ATL us to leave. Discussion assumed. We said didn't think valid. Asked if it was written down. Kevin backed up. Didn't explain why he was asking us to leave. Did eventually leave. On Sunday we see him in the courtyard. Asked why he was there. Said was waiting for someone to let him in. Posted on discord he was there. Explicitly said we're extending the ATL. Told him not cooperating with ATL would be a bad idea. He seemed confused. After we explained to him he did leave. Breifly rang door bell and asked for things. Monday he sent an emailing saying he did not know where to post. Today he responded with why he asked us to leave. '''Jet:''' Since then he sent some emails and messages and a letter...they are all of a simmilir notion...He's in the past delt with many medical, law, and magical ways. he describes his own concious and sleeping as a state of paralasys, daniel: A few weeks ago we talked about if someone is not able to stay concious in the space, we cant make exceptions. Poteea also said that he tried to ATL heather because of something that happened a month ago, This timeline doesnt work and he was trying to garner some sympathy. '''Jet:''' He has not been diagnosed by any medical pro, He has admitted. '''Heather:''' Based on some interactions, He might be cautious to any medical treatment '''Jet:''' We uphold that any reason (for sleeping in the space) Is not acceptable reasons for being asleep in the space. '''Jet:''' What should we do about this? '''Heather:''' The last 3 paragraphs of his most recent thing sound discriminatory '''Julius:''' Clearly there is something about his thinking that is disordered. Its not are responsibility to determine what that is. I think that he has shown he is not a good fit for this space. '''Elan:''' We dont need to pile on with every greivence, i do think alot of the things hes facing are episodes hes going through. I dont think this space is a good place for addressing these episodes. miriom : This is the second time it felt like a threat from his words. '''Michael:''' Nothing thats been read was him admitting fault, or attempting to change his behavior. '''Heather:''' Responding to Elons point - The dense wording he wrote is annoying but so be it, and there are some insults that don't raise a safty concern... but the last three paragrahs are personally offensive. '''Michael Newman:''' I've spent much time with Poitier but still see his actions as warranting him not being allowed in the space '''Elan:''' We face real financial consequences of people sleeping in the space, and it also repels people from coming to the space to hack '''JD:''' WHen I give a tour, I explain the ATL process...If you see someone asking someone to leave...you back them up. If someone is in the wrong, it will be obvious. '''Loren:''' Noting a resource focus when interacting with Poitier. 86 is not a consensus process. '''Jet:''' He is 86'd = Discussion Items = == 1: NoiseGarden == {{DiscussionItem| | topic = NoiseGarden | raised_by = Elan | seeking = funds }} '''Elan:''' Im asking for money, NB has digital infra, to aceess its a pain, we want to host a bunch of cool things...It would be nice to have a reliable place to do it. We want a bootstrap node to live somewhere reliable. 15 - $20 a month to host thins. we have a git, vpn, and Oauth service, its currently on a account with my credit card, Id like it to be fully on NB control. '''Newman:''' why is it named noisegarden? '''Elan:''' Server FARM but it's small and unprofessional so it's a server GARDEN Domain Registrar(noisegarden.nexus): ~$20/year Hetzner(Server, DNS, S3-backup): ~$10-15/month No objections '''Loren:''' Can we suggest a billing headline on hetzner? Elan: 20+ tax == 2: Preemptive Bans == {{DiscussionItem| | topic = Preemptive Bans | raised_by = Elan | seeking = clarification }} '''Elan:''' If people do things that are unexcellent in the space they get 86'd...If someone is banned ina. reciprical space, they could be banned here....Im curious if thats still the understanding? What is the community stance on bans for people that are known for commiting acts we deem un-excellent '''Jet:''' Could you give example? '''Elan:''' Like what if someone was sexually assaulted at a party? '''Jet:''' I would be interested in expanding this. We should collect banlists from other make spaces. '''Julius:''' I'm worried this might be a slippery slope. '''JD:''' We do have reciprocal ban agreements with other spaces (pseudoroom) Im not clear on what the ask is here.... '''Elan:''' In totally unrelated news, I have formed a makerspace called "Elan's Makerspace of Unexcellent Hackers" and am asking for a reciprocal banlist agreement. '''Miriam:''' Im broadly in favor of the idea , Id like more clear scoping, are we doing background checks on people we let in or ? '''Jet:''' Theres an exsisting trust within the community that we should back up ATL's, because this has not been a problem yet, we can come to it when it does. '''JD:''' Again, what exactly are we asking/proposing here? What is the action? '''Heather:''' I suspect Elan might be bringing this up due to an interaction we had with a prospective new noisebridger. '''Jet:''' ATL is transmitted orally amonst us. 86 is written down. '''Jet:''' This is a good use of ATL. == 3: NixOS Meetup == {{DiscussionItem| | topic = NixOS Meetup | raised_by = Victor | seeking = decision/advice }} '''Victor:''' I would like to host a nixOS meetup next wednesday. '''Jet:''' We have a checklist for this. How many ppl do you expect to attend? Victor: 20 '''Jet:''' Need furniture? '''Victor:''' No '''Jet:''' Serving alcohol? '''V:''' No '''Jet:''' Will there be a fee? '''V:''' No '''J:''' playing music? '''V:''' No '''Jet:''' Any reason for us to be skeptical? '''Victor:''' No '''Jet:''' Ok sounds good == 4: <PUT_TOPIC_NAME_HERE> == {{DiscussionItem| | topic = <PUT_TOPIC_NAME_HERE> | raised_by = <PUT_NOISEBRIDGER_ALIAS_HERE> | seeking = decision/outcome/advice/[?] }} = Do-ocratic Task Board = Participation also means doing stuff to contribute to the space. Propose new tasks or pick some tasks from [https://github.com/noisebridge/buildout-capp Github], from what needs to be done around you, or whatever, and see if someone will sign up to work on that task. Anyone can sign up and it's a great way to show you are contributing! = End of Meeting = [[Category:Meeting Notes]]
