Announcing Sample-Studios ‘Sample 15’ Artist Bursary Recipients

Sample-Studios, one of Ireland’s largest artist studios, is celebrating 15 years of launching, supporting and sustaining creative careers in Cork in 2026. To mark this significant milestone, Sample-Studios has announced ‘Sample 15’ Artist Bursaries – a new initiative designed to support the professional development of our members and recognise the vital role they play in the cultural life of Cork City. Since its foundation in 2011, Sample-Studios has grown from a volunteer-led initiative based in the former Tax Office on Sullivan’s Quay into one of Ireland’s largest artist studio organisations with 190 members, supporting a vibrant and diverse community of artists based in Churchfield. Over the past 15 years, Sample-Studios has been a cornerstone of Cork’s creative ecosystem, providing affordable studio space, professional development opportunities, exhibitions, residencies, and platforms for experimentation and collaboration. The Sample 15 Artist Bursary Programme reflects Sample-Studios’ enduring commitment to nurturing creative practice and artistic innovation, celebrating this anniversary year and looking forward to the future. The programme awards fifteen bursaries of €1,000 each to Sample-Studios members which will support them to expand and deepen their artistic practices during 2026 by enabling access to mentorship, residency and equipment that may otherwise be out of reach. Sample-Studios Artistic Director Aoibhie McCarthy states, ‘by investing directly in our artist members, Sample-Studios continues to affirm the importance of long-term, artist-centred support structures. “Sample 15” celebrates 15 years of such support, while looking confidently toward the next 15 years of artistic ambition, innovation, and shared cultural impact.’ The Sample-Studios ‘Sample 15’ Artist Bursary recipients are: Elize de Beer – Support to undertake month long residency at Artica Svalbard, Norway. Awen – Engage in five mentorship sessions with choreographer Inma Pavon. Eoghan O’Kelly – Engage in a month-long residency at the Icelandic Textile Centre in April 2026. Riki Matsuda – Purchase a Canon flatbed scanner, a Canon camera and a portable SSD. Debbie Godsell – Engage in a four-part programme of mentorship with artist Deirdre O’Mahony. Chris Finnegan – Engage in a two-week residency in the Tyrone Guthrie Centre. Aisling Roche – Engage in a 12 week programme of mentorship with artist Rachel Parry. Kim Crowley – Engage in a programme of mentorship with Curator Jane Morrow. Ciara Rodgers – Engage in the Artist Residency in Motherhood over a 2 month period. Ashleigh Ellis – Engage in 7 day residency at Oghyll Red Barn, Youghal, and day trip to Lismore Castle Gardens and Gallery. Artem Trofimenko – Purchase Torso S-4, hard case and portable power solution. Struàn Bell – Support to undertake residency in Uillinn West Cork Arts Centre. Áine Ryan – Support to undertake residency in Uillinn West Cork Arts Centre. Billy Lingwood – Purchase UV exposure unit and chemical ingredients. Emma O’Hara – Purchase of medium-sized professional etching press.

Workshop Grundlagen CNC-Fräse / Einweisung Yeti

Am 19.03.2026 (Donnerstag) findet von 19:00 – 21:00 Uhr ein Workshop zum CNC-Fräsen statt. Dort erlernt Ihr die Grundlagen, wie die Wahl der richtigen Fräser und der Fräsparameter (Drehzahl, Vorschub usw.), das Erstellen von Fräsprogrammen mit Estl-CAM oder Fusion 360 sowie die Bedienung unserer Yeti-Smartbench CNC-Fräse (für Holz, Acrylglas usw.) im der Praxis inkl. Fräßvorführung an einem kleinen Beispielprojekt. Die Teilnahme am Workshop ist gleichzeitig eine Unterweisung für die Yeti, sodass ihr diese danach selbstständig benutzen könnt und dürft. Lessons learned after 39C3

This year, many Hackeriet members attended the 39th Chaos Communication Congress. It was a blast! As part of our efforts to improve how we organize these trips, we held a lessons-learned meetup afterward. Around 15 people joined the meeting, and there was good engagement and a strong willingness to contribute. There was broad agreement that this year’s congress worked well. Notes were prepared in advance and added during the meeting; these are available at https://pad.hackeriet.no/40C3. The pad is now read-only unless you are logged in. The discussion itself went far beyond what makes sense to fully document. This post focuses on concrete decisions, with the intent of making it easier for others to join in and contribute. We agreed that we need to be better at planning for these events. At the same time, there was general satisfaction with the current voucher process. It is important to stay aware that we are managing vouchers on behalf of the broader Norwegian community, not just ourselves. We decided to set up the voucher list for 40C3 early. Foxboron volunteered to take responsibility for the voucher process as a whole. We also agreed to introduce a more explicit “padawan” or second-hand model for roles in general. This lowers the barrier for learning and participation, and helps reduce the bus factor. Xorgic volunteered as voucher padawan, with the primary role holder acting as the elder. Another point of agreement was the need to better separate informational communication from general chatter, memes, and noise. Important messages are easy to miss and hard to push through in busy channels. The decision was to create separate Signal groups to address this. In addition, we decided to create a dedicated Signal group for people who want to take on organizational roles and actively contribute. We also agreed that clearer documentation of how things actually work is needed. This makes it easier for new people to understand both the process and where they can plug in. This blog post is one small step in that direction. A corresponding wiki page has also been created at https://wiki.hackeriet.no/projects/chaos-congress to serve as a more permanent home for this information. Atluxity volunteered to take responsibility for planning meetups, likely virtual. The rough idea is to start with wider intervals and then ramp up: March, June, August, and then monthly closer to the event. This role currently lacks a padawan. Finally, we want to pursue sponsorships and other financial support. Bilkollektivet, NUUG Foundation, and Hyperion were mentioned as potential supporters. There are also commercial actors in Norway that may be relevant to approach. As always, hack the planet. kthxby
