Vorstellung der Idee des WissKomm Wikis

Diese Woche hatten wir einen Talk zum WissKomm Wiki bei uns im Hackerspace. Aus einer Präsentation mit 31 Folien sind über 3 Stunden Diskussion geworden, in der wir über besseren Zugang zu Videos und Podcast gesprochen haben. Man müsste Informationen zu Videos und Podcasts kollaborativ zusammentragen, zentralisiert speichern und parameteisiert durchsuchbar machen. Müsste man Mal machen, haben sich die vom die vom WissKomm Wiki auch gedacht, vom “BorgNetzWerk” (dem gemeinnützigen Verein hinter dem Projekt). Nach 2 Talks auf der GPN kam Tim vom BorgNetzWerk jetzt zu uns, hat gut unterhalten, viele Fragen beantwortet und viele neue ToDos eröffnet, an denen man jetzt weiter zusammenarbeiten kann. Nächster Schritt ist, den Demonstrator zu deployen, damit wir alle das WissKomm Wiki möglichst bald nutzen können. Meetup has undergone its most significant redesign in years. 🚀 Combining a fresh visual identity with a more intuitive user experience, the new design speaks to our ongoing work to elevate Meetup. We wanted to make the platform a more engaging and inspiring space for fostering human connections, while preserving the core identity and functionality that has anchored the community since Meetup’s earliest days. Whether you’ve been using Meetup for years or have only just joined, we believe it’ll now be easier than ever for you to build your community, find your people, and take part in the experiences you care about. Bridging the old and the new At the heart of this redesign is you: As members and organizers, you’ve built countless connections through Meetup over the years and created the communities that define its legacy. With the new design we set out to honor that foundation while making your experience on the platform more enjoyable and rewarding. At the same time, we wanted to ensure that Meetup continues attracting new people to join your groups, attend your events, and contribute to the shared experiences that create a sense of identity and community. This feels especially urgent with the rise of digital fatigue and feelings of isolation among young adults. Recent research shows that over 60% of Gen Z adults say they’re lonelier today than they were 10 years ago, while 80% believe in-person events build better connections. Other studies indicate that 95% of 18- to 35-year-olds are eager to explore interests and communities they’ve discovered online through in-person events, and 45% are looking for a sense of belonging when joining a community. Meetup provides the tools and space to create the in-person connections this generation craves—and we’re seeing the impact. Adult Gen Z (ages 18–28) and young Millennials (ages 29-35) make up 40% of our monthly active users and are the most active age group on the platform. We decided it was the perfect opportunity to modernize our web and app design to create a welcoming and relevant experience for a generation that grew up online, while keeping it familiar for our historical userbase. What’s new? Every update to the appearance and usability was included to delight new and existing members and organizers, while preserving the logical flow that our community knows and depends on. Highlights include: A vibrant visual identity. An updated logo, lively color palette, updated fonts, and new icons and illustrations make Meetup feel more energetic and inviting. Photography front and center. The new identity features high-quality photos of real people, while members and organizers are encouraged to add their own images to bring groups and experiences to life. Streamlined design. Improved spacing, visual contrast, and clearer information hierarchy make the platform easier to navigate and content easier to read. Faster discovery. Better structure and interaction help people find relevant groups and events more quickly. More context for events and groups. Data, photos, and prominent reviews give members a better sense of what to expect before RSVPing to an event or joining a group—an important consideration for many who experience anxiety in unfamiliar social situations. Crucially, we wanted to be sure that the experience stayed familiar to our existing community where it mattered: Core navigation and key steps are unchanged —there’s no need for you to relearn how to do anything on the platform. As of today, Meetup’s new experience is live on Web, and we’re working on bringing it to Mobile soon! Positive early feedback While it’s still early days, the response to the new design has so far been encouraging: People have described the new look as fresh, modern, vibrant, young, social, and happy . Organizers have told us they’re excited to send attendees to a more dynamic, up-to-date Meetup that better reflects the energy of their events. “I really like the new design. Kaum zu glauben – unser CoderDojo in Oldenburg findet im Oktober zum 100. Mal statt! Seit dem ersten Termin im März 2019 haben wir gemeinsam programmiert, gebaut, gelötet, genäht und ganz viel gelernt. Am 11. Oktober 2025 ab 14:00 ist es nun soweit: Der einhundertste Termin steht an. Das wollen wir gemeinsam mit euch im Mainframe feiern – natürlich so wie immer mit ganz viel Spaß, spannenden Projekten und ganz bestimmt auch mit Pommes und Getränken. From Fire to Glow: Making a Neon Sign for Nottinghack

This month we warmly welcome South Wales Neon for a guest post, who recently made an incredible neon sign for the space. We are incredibly excited about this and encourage everyone to support the craft – it looks so much better than LED tape. Thank you South Wales Neon! When Nottingham Hackspace got in touch about bringing neon into their workshop, we knew it was the perfect match. Hackspaces are all about community, creativity, and making things with your own hands and neon belongs right there at the crossroads of craft and science. Why Neon? In an age where “neon” on Google usually means plastic LEDs, glass neon has almost disappeared from view. Neon signs are made by hand, one bend of glass at a time, using the same skills passed down for nearly a century. The Design: A Glowing H For Nottingham Hackspace, we kept it bold and simple, the letter H in classic green, the colour many benders call the truest green shade. It’s a sign that feels both timeless and unmistakably tied to nottinghack’s spirit. ol > li { margin-bottom: 20px; } The Process: Fire + Glass Starting point : Straight 1.5m tubes of powdered glass. Bending : Heated in an open flame until soft, then shaped carefully against a pattern. Electrodes : Sealed onto the ends, creating the points where current will flow. Bombarding : The tube is cleaned under vacuum with high voltage and heat, ensuring no impurities remain. Gas fill : Finally, we introduce neon gas, creating that signature red-orange glow. In this case, we used green-coated glass so the finished sign shines Nottngham Hackspace’s favourite shade. Why it matters Every real neon tube is one of a kind. No moulds, no mass production. To have a piece glowing inside nottinghack is a reminder that making things isn’t just about the latest tools, it’s about keeping a craft alive too. See it for yourself Next time you’re at Nottingham Hackspace, look for the green H glowing in the comfy area. It’s a sign not just of light, but of the creativity that runs through the space.
