For the third year, Diyode has made a contribution to the poppy fund at Guelph’s local Canadian Royal Legion. This year that contribution reached $1250, a modest increase from the previous year’s amount of $1100, but a sizable increase from the first year’s $150. This is thanks to the efforts of a dedicated team of makers at Diyode that put in the extra time to make something that supports the community. You may have come across the wooden poppies created at Diyode at businesses around town, gifted for a donation of $5 or more. If you haven’t seen them yourself, Diyode poppies are laser cut from plywood, then painted, rather than being made from plastic. Not only do they have a nice handmade aesthetic, they also stick to your coat with a safety pin rather than a straight pin, so you’re much less likely to jab yourself. Diyode extends its thanks to everyone that contributed to such an important project. To the members who made each wooden poppy, those who donated and the local businesses around Guelph who helped distribute them – The Wheel Works , Puffle Care , Lost Aviator Coffee , Village Cigar Co. Guelph , Global Gas , and Franco & Son’s Barbershop . Everything that is donated to the Poppy Fund is held in a trust that “directly supports Canada’s Veterans and their families, while ensuring Canada never forgets.” The legion has more information on their website .
