In the heart of Stavanger, a new wave of agricultural technology is sprouting, and it’s led by a dynamic startup named Botanist AS. Creator Makerspace is thrilled to welcome Botanist AS to our community, a company that’s not just growing plants but also growing ideas that could revolutionize farming practices globally. Founded with roots in the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU), Botanist AS represents the pinnacle of AgriTech innovation. Their primary focus? Developing sensor technology for precision agriculture, aimed at reducing emissions, cutting costs, and increasing crop yields. Their ultimate goal? To create the world’s first cost-effective mass monitoring system for soil moisture and nutrient levels. The Problem and Botanist’s Solution Agriculture today faces a paradox. It’s both a victim and a contributor to environmental challenges. Excessive water usage and nutrient mismanagement are just the tip of the iceberg. With agriculture accounting for 70% of freshwater usage, the need for efficient irrigation is undeniable. Botanist AS steps into this space with a clear vision: to make soil sensors accessible to all. Their innovative sensors, preprogrammed for effortless data transmission over NB-IoT, promise a future where irrigation and fertilization are not just efficient but precisely attuned to the needs of the crops and the environment. Botanist’s Services and Technologies Botanist AS offers cost-effective, simple-to-install sensors that require no setup. These devices provide critical data on soil moisture and nutrient levels, enabling farmers to make informed decisions that optimize resource use and enhance crop yield. Geekdom’s 2024 Incubator Cohort Unveiled: Meet the 15 Selected Companies

🇺🇸 · Geekdom · nickh@geekdom.com

After a jam-packed year of programming in 2023, San Antonio’s premier collaborative entrepreneurial community and workspace, Geekdom , will kick off the new year with another Incubator cohort consisting of 15 companies. The Geekdom Incubator Program has helped over 50 companies since its creation in 2020 to discover their target market, identify their minimum viable product, connect with mentors, and obtain their first customers. Alumni companies have since raised over $145,000 in funding through various pitch competitions, accelerator programs, small business grants, and Geekdom’s quarterly Community Fund Program. The Incubator Cohort meets weekly on Saturday mornings to allow founders to participate in the program who may not be at a point where they can focus on their business full-time. Over the course of the 8-weeks, the participants will learn how to build a sustainable business through testing and proving their assumptions behind their venture. The Geekdom team was astounded by the volume and caliber of applications, with this cohort having the most competitive applicant pool thus far. We are ecstatic at the opportunity to work with such a diverse group of companies, whose products range from consumer packaged goods to web3-backed applications. As always, Geekdom is honored to be a part of these founders’ entrepreneurial journeys, and we can’t wait to see how they shift and grow over the course of the program. At the end of Geekdom’s Q1 Incubator Program, the companies will be featured at a public showcase day event where they will demo their products, network with local business leaders, and attract their first customers.
