Vrijdag (22 september) vindt de officiële opening van Qeske Kerkrade Q1 & Q2 plaats. Er zijn ongeveer 400 aanmeldingen. Het leeft binnen de regio en daar we zijn erg trots op! De ondernemers hebben de laatste weken hard gewerkt om er voor u iets interessants en moois van te maken. We hebben dit event voor u georganiseerd in de vorm van een (vak)beurs waarbij elk bedrijf in de ontvangstruimte een eigen stand heeft. Bij de ingang ontvangt u een badge en onder het genot van een hapje en een drankje kunt de eerste indrukken opdoen en netwerken met de overige gasten. Het wijst zich vanzelf! Bij elke afzonderlijke bedrijfslocatie en andere interessante punten op ons terrein staan voor u diverse activiteiten, zoals bedrijfs-, productpresentaties en testopstellingen, voor u klaar. We kunnen verklappen dat elke stand en locatie de moeite van het bezoeken meer dan waard is. Neemt u gerust al eens een kijkje op onze plattegrond. Conferenza Freedom not Fear 2023

Quest’anno, per la prima volta, il POuL è stato invitato alla conferenza Freedom not Fear , che si è svolta tra l’1 e il 4 settembre a Bruxelles , in Belgio. La conferenza è un appuntamento fisso per tutti gli attivisti nel’ambito della privacy e dei diritti digitali di tutta Europa, che hanno la possibilità di confrontarsi sui temi di attualità e parlarne con membri dell’Europarlamento durante la visita alle Istituzioni Europee con cui si conclude l’evento. La nostra associazione ha partecipato all’edizione 2023 con una delegazione di 12 membri, contribuendo con una presentazione dal titolo: “When one browser tries to rule them all: how web monopolies impose their rules on your computer” . Abbiamo parlato della storia dei browser Internet, di come è cambiato il market share negli anni e come sono stati affrontati dalla Commissione Europea i vari monopoli che si sono imposti, fino ad arrivare alla situazione attuale e alle conseguenze del corrente monopolio di Google Chrome, discutendo di casi come ManifestV3 e JPEG XL che dimostrano la pericolosità della virtuale assenza di concorrenza nel settore. La parte finale della presentazione è stata dedicata ad esplorare una potenziale conseguenza futura, ovvero il Web Environment Integrity , una proposta di Google che comporta importanti dubbi sulla privacy, sulla libertà personale e seri rischi di discriminazione . Oltre a questa presentazione, abbiamo potuto assistere ad altre sessioni di discussione incentrati su molteplici temi: la prima sessione plenaria è stata a cura di Wojciech Wiewiórowski , l’attuale Garante europeo della protezione dei dati , che ha presentato il lavoro del suo team per nell’introduzione dell’uso del Fediverso nei vari organi dell’Unione Europea. Nei giorni successivi abbiamo partecipato a molti altri incontri di discussioni, culminate nella stesura di un position paper che verrà presentato agli organi Europei come riassunto dei risultati della conferenza. L’ultimo giorno abbiamo avuto occasione di visitare il Parlamento Europeo e di parlare con l’Europarlamentare Patrick Breyer , esperienza che ci ha permesso di conoscere meglio l’attività delle Istituzioni Europee e di portare alla sua attenzione i principi in cui la nostra Associazione crede. Il viaggio si è concluso con una visita al Parlamentarium , in cui abbiamo potuto approfondire la storia dell’Unione e i suoi principi fondanti. Trattandosi del primo viaggio del POuL post-pandemia, è stata una preziosa occasione per far conoscere l’Associazione anche al di fuori dei confini nazionali, avvicinandoci alle Istituzioni Europee e alle altre Associazioni del continente che operano con i nostri stessi interessi. Shoes, Drawers, and Leaves

If you’ve ever wondered what goes on at a typical members’ evening at the Surrey & Hampshire Makerspace then the answer is I don’t think there is a typical evening. At our most recent weekly members’ evening one member was in the early stages of hand making a pair of shoes A prototype for a hand made shoe in the process of being stitched together. Meanwhile the Makerspace’s 3D printer carried on making drawers to fit in the front of our workbenches: A finished drawer fresh from the Delta printer The drawer safely installed in one of our workbenches The laser cutter was also in use, with the scent of gently vapourised bay leaves adding an unusual note to the evening. A bay leaf with a laser radiation warning symbol engraved into it by our laser cutter It turns out that our laser cutter is almost too powerful to cut engrave designs on leaves. As you can see though we did manage finally dial in some settings that just nicely skeletonised the areas we wanted. Laser engraving leaves also proved difficult as they are very light and were easily disturbed so completely reducing a leaf to a just the delicate structure of veins proved impossible for now. Members’ evenings continue every Tuesday evening from 7:15pm, non-members can come and take a look at the space and what’s going on by prior arrangement.
