In diesem Vortrag zeigen wir Dir, wie Du mit der Software Paperless Deine Dokumente digitalisieren, archivieren, automatisch sortieren und jederzeit durchsuchbar machen kannst. Vom "Brief öffnen" über das Einscannen bis hin zum digitalen Ablegen wichtiger Dokumente – wir erklären und demonstrieren den gesamten Prozess. Auch die Installation und Einrichtung der Software wird behandelt. Am Ende gibt es eine Fragerunde, in der Du alle Deine Fragen stellen kannst.

Wie in Repair-Cafes üblich: Wir liefern den technischen Sachverstand, Rat und auch Tat. Wir helfen wo wir können – aber du musst selbst Hand anlegen und mitmachen – denn das ist der Grundgedanke der Sprechstunde.

Zehntausende Fotos wurden in diesem Jahr wieder aus Deutschland bei den Wettbewerben Wiki Loves Monuments (WLM), Wiki Loves Earth (WLE) und erstmals auch bei Wiki Loves Folklore (WLF) eingereicht. Am 6. Dezember 2024 feiern wir die Preisträger*innen und ihre Werke – in zeitlicher Nähe zum Internationalen Tag des Ehrenamts.
Mit den Fotowettbewerben Wiki Loves Monuments, Wiki Loves Earth leisten die Ehrenamtlichen der Wikimedia-Communitys jedes Jahr einen beeindruckenden Beitrag zum Natur- und Denkmalschutz. In diesem Jahr ist noch ein dritter Wettbewerb dazugekommen – Wiki Loves Folklore. Alle eingereichten Fotos stehen unter freier Lizenz und können so in den Wiki-Projekten, allen voran in der Wikipedia, genutzt und auf diese Weise der ganzen Welt zugänglich gemacht werden.
Zum ersten Mal feiern wir die Gewinner*innen aller drei Wettbewerbe und ihre Werke gemeinsam. Die diesjährige Preisverleihung findet am Freitag, 06.12.2024, ab 18.30 Uhr als hybride Veranstaltung statt und wird auch live übertragen. Als Veranstaltungsort für die Preisverleihung haben wir die Geschäftsstelle von Wikimedia Deutschland am Tempelhofer Ufer in Berlin-Kreuzberg ausgewählt. Es werden Preisträgerinnen und Preisträger vor Ort sein, aber auch live zugeschaltet werden.

Hack the holidays by learning to open up toys to add adaptive switches, which provides kids opportunities for accessible play!The event:
Join us this holiday season in supporting the magic of play for children with primarily motor disabilities. During this workshop, we will be modifying commercial toys to make them switch accessible. The primary goal is to provide an avenue for these children to engage in play and recreation independently. Switches are external devices that can be activated by various movements or touch, such as pressing a button, blowing into a tube, or tapping with a foot. Adapting toys involves modifying their design to incorporate these external switches, allowing children with limited mobility to control and interact with the toys more easily.
Switch-adapted toys can range from simple to complex, depending on the child's needs and preferences. The process of making toys switch-accessible not only opens up new possibilities for play but also contributes significantly to the child's cognitive and motor skill development. By incorporating inclusivity in toy design, we create opportunities for children of all abilities to experience the joy, learning, and social interaction that play brings.
In addition to adapting a toy, participants will also fabricate a 3D printed switch to accompany the toy. The commercial options for these switches is often high and adds an additional barrier to access. All toys and switches created as part of the workshop may be kept by participants to gift to those in their lives or will be donated to local schools and organizations.
Who is this class for?
The class is geared towards all levels of technical skill with extra support provided for those new to soldering. Makers, health professionals, caregivers, and family members of children with disabilities are encouraged to attend.
$10 is the minimum donation to cover the cost of a toy, but suggested is $20. All additional funds will go to Makers Making Change local chapter to fund volunteers who cannot cover the base price, but still want to participate, and towards future initiatives.
This is a masks optional workshop.
The leading organization:
Makers Making Change (MMC) leverages the capacity of community based Makers, Disability Professionals and Volunteers to develop and deliver affordable Open Source Assistive Technologies. This workshop will be lead by the co- leaders of the NYC chapter of MMC; Farrukh Zia, Chris Marotta and Loreto Dumitrescu. Chapter members come from a range of backgrounds including educators, engineers, designers, and health professionals such as occupational therapists.

Don't miss out on this opportunity to dive into the world of Orca and unleash your creativity!Orca is a two-dimensional esoteric programming language in which every letter of the alphabet is an operator, where lowercase letters operate on bang, uppercase letters operate each frame.The application is not a synthesiser, but a flexible livecoding environment capable of sending MIDI, OSC & UDP to your audio interface, like Ableton.In this workshop I will get you started with installing Orca, and its companion synth, Pilot as an application on your computer, and give you an intro to coding in orca. I will go over triggering events, sequencing notes, making a tracker style sequencer, saving/recalling patches and more. I will also provide you with txt files of the orca code I will be going over in the workshop for reference. The workshop will be kind of open ended so questions while I'm talking are heavily encouraged.This class is for livecode people, musicians, live visual artists, or anyone at all thats interested! Orca and Pilot are both free and open source and can be downloaded on windows, mac, linux and unix.
The instructor of this workshop is Femi. They have been preforming experimental electronics as Sadnoise in the NY/Providence/Boston Area for about 5 years now. He's very obsessed with esoteric synths and programming languages that are as weird to use as they are beautiful to look at. He's been using orca as a way of exploring sequencing note information because of its interesting puzzle-like way of patching and coding, but also its simplicity. He loves modular systems and doesn't have a coding background so learning esolangs like orca attract him because they are a fun challenge to learn and try and get the most out of.
Participants should bring their laptop or PC and headphones. People are welcome to bring synths or drum machines to sequence via orca, if they do they should bring their interface, and a midi cable, or a way of sending midi from their computer to their synths, but this is optional. Orca has its own unique syntax, so prior knowledge of coding languages might be useful but is not necessary at all.

The following items are optional if you'd like to try cutting a simple custom design. If your file ends up being too complicated, we may have you do the class default project first, just to learn the laser in the time allotted - but we'll definitely help you with your more complex cut at a free Craft Night in future!

Participants will learn about Internet of Things technology by building a pair of Love Messengers, which make a great gift.In this class, participants will build their very own pair of Love Messengers: a perfect gift for friends and partners.Love Messengers are two IoT devices that are connected to each other via a real-time database. When one Love Messenger is pressed, the other will light up, no matter how far apart they are. The class will provide all materials, and playfully introduce Internet of Things technology, basic coding (C++), electronics, and fabrication techniques. At the end of the class, everyone gets to take their love messengers home as a gift for a loved one.
No prior experience necessary.
Bring your own laptop, but a loaner computer is available in the space if you don't have one.
The instructors:
Pepi and Julia are two NYC-based creative technologists passionate about open-source projects. “Love Messengers” is our first fully open-source tech project - over the years, we've refined its code and fabrication, and have taught this workshop at events like Siggraph 2024 and Parsons Dorkshops.

In this hands-on workshop, you'll learn how to use a soldering iron safely and effectively, and get plenty of practice with both soldering and de-soldering techniques. We'll be soldering up some Game of Life kits - LED tiles that generate nifty animations. No previous experience is required, making this introductory workshop a great choice for anyone who's curious about getting started with hardware tinkering! All materials will be provided.
