Do you like encasing itty-bitty things in glass? Do shiny objects make you happy? If you answered yes to any of these, you might be a crow and/or we have the class for you!Come to NYC Resistor and learn how to make glitter snow globes, both the traditional fast moving blizzard kind and also zen, dreamy, slow-moving glitter "calm down" jars.
We'll provide all the materials from figurings to a variety of colors to make your world just a bit less shinier and to make you remember the day you were hugging your A.C. Come join us for an introductory through-hole solderSoldering is one of the most important skills you'll need for working with electronics. Come join us for an introductory through-hole soldering workshop. Soldering enables you to create sturdy connections between electrical components. In this hands-on workshop, you'll learn how to use a soldering iron safely and effectively, and get plenty of practice with both soldering and de-soldering techniques. We'll be soldering up some Game of Life kits - LED tiles that generate nifty animations. No previous experience is required, making this introductory workshop a great choice for anyone who's curious about getting started with hardware tinkering! All materials will be provided.

Please be ready to start at 1pm! We find that you will need this time to get through the whole class. Our classes tend to sell out about a week in advance so if you're interested, you may want to sign up early.

In this three hour class, you will learn:
How to set up a file for cutting on the laser cutter in Inkscape or Adobe Illustrator.Laser cutter safety including materials testing.Laser cutter operation including configuration, cuts and raster etching in common materials like wood, acrylic, cardboard and others.At the end of class, you will go home with:
One laser cut project, either the class default or a simple one of your own design (see below for details)Resistor Laser Certification, enabling you to use our laser on Craft Nights.Please bring the following to class:
A laptop with either Inkscape (free: download here: https://inkscape.org/release/inkscape-1.2.1/) or Adobe Illustrator installed.
A USB jump drive
The following items are optional if you'd like to try cutting a simple custom design. If your file ends up being too complicated, we may have you do the class default project first, just to learn the laser in the time allotted - but we'll definitely help you with your more complex cut at a free Craft Night in future!
An SVG vector file of a simple shape you'd like to cut for your first cut.A piece of 1/8 inch or thinner wood, acrylic or cardboard you'd like to cut. If you can't bring your own material, small pieces will be made available, or larger pieces for purchase on site.Please be on time for the start of class! If you're late you will miss your slot.

A beginner to intermediate level class for users who want to learn more about the tools/methods in the TOPs operator class in TouchdesigerThis workshop aims to teach users the question of “why does this happen?” when we connect certain TOP nodes in touchdesigner. Learn how to manipulate point clouds to generate your own shapes in both 2D and 3D, create particle systems, and generate interesting artworks from the ground up.
No experience needed, just need a laptop with a dedicated gpu.

This is a masks optional workshop.

This class will be taught by QANJUJUSUN aka Andrew Sun.Andrew is a self-taught visual artist who uses Touchdesigner to bridge the gap between mathematics and art.His visuals strive to be an exploration of nature, science, and anything else he finds cool in life through mathematical functions and algorithms. This talk is designed to offer a deeper understanding of how to manipulate sound and use our environment to add context and texture. Through the exploration of techniques such as re-amping through the surrounding environment, sending sounds through various mediums, and paying attention to the feelings and messages we aim to convey, participants will gain practical knowledge on manipulating and exaggerating sound characteristics.Rooted in sound design, this talk will be beneficial for installation artists, musicians, producers, and anyone seeking to expand their understanding of audio manipulation beyond traditional methods.
This session is suitable for all skill levels and experiences. Although I will discuss some technical aspects, the focus is primarily on the artistic process and ways to think about sound and its impact on the listener. While an audio background can be helpful, the content is relevant to any art form and to anyone interested in enhancing their creative workflow.

Learn how to turn your own fabric into a touch sensor you can use to control electronic components of costumes and textile art!Have you ever wanted to include controllable electronic components in your costumes, knitting or other textile projects? Have you ever wanted to add a textile element to your microcontroller project? Add capacitive touch sensing to your toolbox! In this class you'll learn:
how make your own conductive polymer as a dye bathhow to turn your electro-reactive textile into a sensor that can detect your touchhow to connect that textile sensor to a microcontrollerhow to use that sensor to produce different effects like turning electronic components on and off, creating effects over time, and even sense proximity beyond direct touch.No electronics, programming, or textiles experience is required for this class at all! We'll walk you through everything you need to know to create your textile sensor, wire it up, and program an Arduino-compatible microcontroller to create lighting effects on addressable LEDs.
All materials are included in the class, but you will need to bring your own laptop, and can optionally bring your absorbant textile swatch to dye (8" x 8" for fabrics, a small amount of yarn, a piece of natural sponge, etc.). Natural fibers typically take the process the best.
This class will be taught by Resistor members Kari Love and Katie Mills. Using techniques from the PolySense project.
There are 2 spots reserved for students who cannot access the class at the full price, so please make use of one of these need-based tickets if that is your situation.
