The purpose of this group is to take the increasingly impressive technical results coming out of AGI and share, contextualize and explore. The event:
this is an artificial general intelligence work group. the reason the term agi has been chosen over, say, machine learning, or artificial intelligence, or generative ai is because those terms have become more to do with the industrial use cases of certain human capacities rather than to do with the exploration of how information and knowledge are navigated by minds. the topics of machine learning and neural networks are still crucial. in fact, the purpose of this group as far as there is one is to take the increasingly impressive technical results coming out of those fields and contextualize them within social, aesthetic, psychological, economic, etc, paradigms we find ourselves within.
if you have found yourself drawn to the ideas that are expressed in books like /godel escher bach/, /the machinic unconscious/, /the lathe of heaven/, /the dispossessed/, /metaphors we live by/, /the c programming language/, and/or the nsa/ncsc rainbow series, show up. if you find yourself in awe of 256 byte demos, neural annealing, the edges of perception, or/and langsec, come by.
bring a piece of text you find interesting, bring a song, bring some code, bring some funny little puzzles, bring questions and maybe someone else will have brought an answer. this intends to be a collective conversation and action.
The host space:
In the tradition of NYC Resistor's early Microcontroller Study Group, we are happy to provide our hacker space for meeting to explore emerging technology.
Who is the group for?
this group is for anyone interested in both deep diving on the newest technical advances and the wildest implications of those new technical developments. come with a willingness to share your perspective and your work in whatever form of expression it might take. if you use machine learning in your art, come. if you work on ASIC accelerators come. if you are obsessed with experience itself, come. if you care about people and their relationship to each other and the tools they use, show up!
The suggested donation of $15-20 will both be put towards drinks (Club Mate), and support the space.
This is a masks optional event.

Hack the holidays by learning to open up toys to add adaptive switches, which provides kids opportunities for accessible play! The event:
Join us this holiday season in supporting the magic of play for children with primarily motor disabilities. During this workshop, we will be modifying commercial toys to make them switch accessible. The primary goal is to provide an avenue for these children to engage in play and recreation independently. Switches are external devices that can be activated by various movements or touch, such as pressing a button, blowing into a tube, or tapping with a foot. Adapting toys involves modifying their design to incorporate these external switches, allowing children with limited mobility to control and interact with the toys more easily.
Switch-adapted toys can range from simple to complex, depending on the child's needs and preferences. The process of making toys switch-accessible not only opens up new possibilities for play but also contributes significantly to the child's cognitive and motor skill development. By incorporating inclusivity in toy design, we create opportunities for children of all abilities to experience the joy, learning, and social interaction that play brings.
In addition to adapting a toy, participants will also fabricate a 3D printed switch to accompany the toy. The commercial options for these switches is often high and adds an additional barrier to access. All toys and switches created as part of the workshop may be kept by participants to gift to those in their lives or will be donated to local schools and organizations.
Who is this class for?
The class is geared towards all levels of technical skill with extra support provided for those new to soldering. Makers, health professionals, caregivers, and family members of children with disabilities are encouraged to attend.
$10 is the minimum donation to cover the cost of a toy, but all additional funds will go to Makers Making Change local chapter to fund volunteers who cannot cover the base price, but still want to participate, and towards future initiatives.
This is a masks optional workshop.
The leading organization:
Makers Making Change (MMC) leverages the capacity of community based Makers, Disability Professionals and Volunteers to develop and deliver affordable Open Source Assistive Technologies. This workshop will be lead by the co- leaders of the NYC chapter of MMC; Farrukh Zia, Chris Marotta and Loreto Dumitrescu. Chapter members come from a range of backgrounds including educators, engineers, designers, and health professionals such as occupational therapists.
If you'd like to make additional donations to fund adaptive toy distribution, here is the Makers Making Change fundraising page PayPal: https://www.paypal.com/pools/c/8Y4kUNOdar

Programm:
* 11-16 Uhr: Kleiderkarussell
* 12, 13 und 14 Uhr: Film "Die fast fashion-Lüge" (30 Min)
Schaufensterausstellung zum Thema: Wasserverbrauch in der Textilindustrie
* Fürs leibliche Wohl ist gesorgt.

Learn about counting tieknots, and how that system can help you remember how to tie your tie and broaden your style repertoire.Tying tieknots can range from mandatory chore that you just want to get through, to a means of self-expression in a part of fashion where self-expression is limited. But how might one describe and share how to tie a particular knot? And can we use a systematic enough description to count how many tieknots could exist, and see whether the ones people use are rare or common?
My research enumerating tieknots has been a question on Qi, has been heckled on NPR and helped get me a green card to the US. In this class I will share how counting tieknots can be done, and how the same things that help me count tieknots can help you remember how to tie your tie and broaden your repertoire.
You do not need to bring anything - I will be bringing practice ties for everyone to use. If you want to use your own tie, you are of course welcome to.
Masks optional, but please be up to date with vaccines.
Leader Bio: Mikael Vejdemo-Johansson is a tenured Associate Professor of Data Science at CUNY College of Staten Island and at the CUNY Graduate Center, primarily specialized in Topological Data Analysis. Neckties and tieknots are among his many side tracks in his research.
