Learn how to bevel cut mat board to give your photos and art that professional look! Mat board, foam, and pro-grade cutter access provided.Learn how to bevel cut mat board to give your photos and art that professional look!
Do you have an awkwardly sized photo or piece of art that doesn't fit in a standard frame? Or do you want to save $$ by matting and framing your art yourself instead of taking it to a frame shop? Well, this make-a-long is for you! Learn how to use a Logan Mat Cutter to cut a beveled window in mat board to make your art and photos look professional. Mat board and foam board backing will be provided (frames will not be provided).
Mat board provided will be 11x14 inches, so please bring one image that is around 8x10 inches. Mat cutter will be available to use after the class on our regular public nights.
This class will be lead by Resistor member, Ben K. Ben is an artist and a self taught diy-er who has framed hundreds of photos and pieces of art.
This will be a masks optional event.

Make one-of-a-kind jewelry with all materials included: beads, vintage pieces, shells, found objects, a tangle of crucifixes, and rarities.UNSTRUT GEMS invites you to make one-of-a-kind jewelries in a gathering of the jewels. This 4 hour make-along is about being together, giggling and crafting around the wooden table at NYC Resistor. Class begins with a tour of materials – there are beads big and small, vintage earrings/necklaces, shells, found objects, a tangle of crucifixes, and other rarities...
Attendees are encouraged to make one thing or ten, for themselves and for friends. Bring your love and attention. Stela, your host, is going to be your guide, and each guest at the table will inspire and contribute to our afternoon of precious handicraft. Hands will be busy and laughter flowing.
By the end of class, these gems will be ready… to STRUT out into the summer evening.
Your host: Stela Xhiku is a found artist, ITP ’23 grad, and jewelry enthusiast.

In this workshop build a GrimBeeper, an EMF detector which lights an LED and makes sound when Electromagnetic frequencies are detected.In this workshop you will build a GrimBeeper, learn to solder, and learn about different electronics components. No previous experience with electronics is required.
The Grim Beeper is made of two parts. An EMF detector which lights an LED when Electromagnetic frequencies are detected. This light controls the sound of a square wave oscillator.
It is believed by some people that a ghostly presence can be associated with a fluctuation in temperature and electromagnetic energy. This has not been proven however an EMF detector is a common tool used by ghost hunters.
Your Instructor:
Tara Pattenden has been working with electronics and noise for over 20 years. She is based in Brisbane, Australia where she makes a variety of noisy instruments.
This is a masks optional event.

Harness the power of an Epilog 60 Watt Laser! In this class you'll learn everything you need.Harness the power of an Epilog 60 Watt Laser! In this class you'll learn everything you need to know to make the ideas in your head become a reality with a laser.
In this three hour class, you will learn:
How to set up a file for cutting on the laser cutter in Inkscape or Adobe Illustrator.Laser cutter safety including materials testing.Laser cutter operation including configuration, cuts and raster etching in common materials like wood, acrylic, cardboard and others.At the end of class, you will go home with:
One laser cut project, either the class default or a simple one of your own design (see below for details)Resistor Laser Certification, enabling you to use our laser on Craft Nights.Please bring the following to class:
A laptop with either Inkscape (free: download here: https://inkscape.org/release/inkscape-1.2.1/) or Adobe Illustrator installed.
A USB jump drive
The following items are optional if you'd like to try cutting a simple custom design. If your file ends up being too complicated, we may have you do the class default project first, just to learn the laser in the time allotted - but we'll definitely help you with your more complex cut at a free Craft Night in future!
An SVG vector file of a simple shape you'd like to cut for your first cut. A piece of 1/8 inch or thinner wood, acrylic or cardboard you'd like to cut. If you can't bring your own material, small pieces will be made available, or larger pieces for purchase on site.Please be on time for the start of class! If you're late you will miss your slot.

Come join us for an introductory through-hole soldering workshop. Soldering enables you to create sturdy connections between electrical components. In this hands-on workshop, you'll learn how to use a soldering iron safely and effectively, and get plenty of practice with both soldering and de-soldering techniques. We'll be soldering up some Game of Life kits - LED tiles that generate nifty animations. No previous experience is required, making this introductory workshop a great choice for anyone who's curious about getting started with hardware tinkering! All materials will be provided.
