Electronics and Soldering Workshop

About a year and a half ago, I came to Diyode for three things. I wanted access to a 3D printer. I wanted a place where I could learn to solder. And because I was new to the country, I wanted friends.

One of those items was solved because my dad got a nice new 3D printer, so I got his old one. The other two were largely solved by Cliff Gates. One day I’ll do a post on my slapdash DIY laptop project, but for now, the important part of that story was that Cliff was the one that hung out with…

2024 Wooden Poppy Drive

For the third year, Diyode has made a contribution to the poppy fund at Guelph’s local Canadian Royal Legion. This year that contribution reached $1250, a modest increase from the previous year’s amount of $1100, but a sizable increase from the first year’s $150. Leatherworking Workshop

For context, when I think of leather, I’m thinking “the heaviest armor you’re allowed to wear as a rogue.” Leather is flexible and in contrast to something like platemail (yes we’re still in DnD land) isn’t something you forge. Project Highlight: Super Van

I have always wanted to live on a spaceship. While science fiction has granted us plenty of excellent star fighter designs like Luke Skywalker’s X-Wing from Star Wars, or Starbuck’s Viper from Battlestar Galactica, the best spaceships are the ones that double as houses. From Star Wars we have the Millennium Falcon, or the Razor Crest, or the Ghost (watch Rebels). Firefly gave us Serenity. You can visit any planet in the solar system in the Rocinante from the Expanse. I have more, but I should…

Guitar Setup Workshop

Did you know that guitars typically have a metal rod that runs through the length of the neck? Because I didn’t and I’ve been playing guitar for over fifteen years. This was just one of a few things that I picked up while observing Grace Da Maren’s workshop on guitar setup.

Who’s Grace?

Why should you care what she has to say about guitar setup?

What’s guitar setup?

We’ll answer that last question first. Most guitar players, at the very least, know how to tune and replace their…
