Next Hub Talk: Seeing and Hearing with your Tongue

We’re very excited about our next Hub Talk!

On April 29th at 7pm, we’ll be learning about (and trying) the world’s first open source sensory substitution/augmentation development platform: The Cthulhu Shield. This system takes various types of sensory inputs (sound, pressure, image, heat, etc) and translates them into electrode pulses that are in contact with the surface of the tongue. This sensory substitution allows your tongue to ‘see’ and ‘hear’ the environment around you.

Arduino

The Arduino 101 class that Dan and Steve held today was awesome. A lot of beginner information presented very well. I am now confident that I can explore and experiment and achieve success.

I highly recommend this class if you are interested or curious about Arduino.

Looking forward to when FCCH offers a Arduino 201 class.

Fox Hunt: A Radio Adventure

A few months ago I had the opportunity to participate in something called a “fox hunt” – or a hidden transmitter hunt – with the Binghamton Amateur Radio Association (BARA). This activity brings together a group of people to find a radio transmitter which has been hidden and is broadcasting on a specific frequency; they are tasked with finding the transmitter based on radio signal strength, which is usually accomplished by using a directional antenna, such as a yagi antenna. The term…

New Website Features and Member Services

Here is some good news for our members (and members-to-be). We are in the process of transitioning to Wild Apricot membership software. Not only will this allow for more communication and self-management of your membership, it will automate many of the processes that our volunteers had to perform manually.

This will take a few days to roll out fully, but here are some of the things you will be able to do as a member of the Creator Hub right here on our website:

  • Update your contact…
