Hackjam 17th December 2019

This evening we did not see a lot of members as a few of them are traveling to the Chaos Communication Congress or going on holidays for the Christmas / New year period.

This evening we had the visit of a few visitors, 4 to be exact, coming from the USA. Most of them new to Hong Kong or even Asia in general. We hope to see them again after the festivities.

One of them, Jeff to whom I talk with for some time is interested in golf, and is having his own design golf putter been CNCed in…

Laser cut Christmas decorations

On this Saturday the 21st of December 2019, we will organise an afternoon for grown-up and kids to learn about the use of a laser cutter machine and create decorations for Christmas.

Painting will be involved as the laser cutter will only cut the pieces of wood. We will use Inkscape as the software to create the decoration or modify existing ones. We have collected a few ~20 decorations from the internet for the little ones to choose from. Teenagers and grown-up can create their own design.

Raspberry Jam in December

Fun and productive Rasbperry Jam today. As it was the last jam of the year, we didnt have a huge number of people, but we still had plenty of projects to show off and work on – including some surprise yak shaving.

I was showing off my relatively rare “red” raspberry pi (The red color means it was a Pi made in China, specifically for the China market – so probably not so rare if you are popping over to Shenzhen)

We had a space member show up with her blinkenrobot kit to solder – This is a…

This week at Hack Jam

As usual, I went to the space for our weekly social night last night and helped show three new visitors around the space. We were also lucky to have Mitch Altman drop in – On his way home from the most recent Hacker Tour To China.

Some of the conversations from the night:

  • Some people were talking about their plans to meet up for a visit to the SZ Maker faire this weekend.
  • One of our members was building and showing off his new PC Engines apu4
  • We started looking at getting a dev env for a Re…

It has been invented in the 80’s and has become ever since a standard for many creatives. Artists such as Aphex Twin, Radiohead and Autechre, as well as countless VJs, interaction designers, and tinkerers all over the world are using it as a privileged tool.
