Permits are issued, and walls are going up for the makerspace!  Here’s a bit of a catch up the last few weeks progress around the space:

• Boiler replacement completed, heat is on: The new boiler (funded by the building owner) is now installed and keeping the space a comfortable 72 degrees.  The complex electrical of wiring up 4 boilers meant the project took longer than expected, but it’s nice to be able to walk around the space without a heavy coat on!
• Walls starting to go up: A HUGE shout out to member Matt Shortridge for chalking out official lines, nailing down track with a powdered actuator, and starting off all the walls. We’ve got shifts all this week to get the metal studs in place for the studios.
• Rough In Plumbing starts Wednesday: PMG will start adding plumbing for the new bathrooms, sinks, and water fountains required for the space.  This should start on December 3rd, so we’re trying to finish walls in the requisite areas soon.
• Window Repair Party Happened: We didn’t get as far as we had hoped, but a few of the troublesome plastic windows on the Southern side of the building are now replaced with proper glass windows.  We’ll try and tackle a few more over the coming weeks, but might have to leave the rest until it gets warm again outside. Big thanks to the Redepennings, the Smiths, and Jonathan Worner for helping scrape out window casings and put in new panels!
• Temporary Woodshop Built: Members Dave, Chuck, and Rob turned the loading area and former workshop into a temporary woodshop! This should allow us to build fixtures, fix up doors, and otherwise work on the makerspace as keep building the space.
• Coworking Conference Room (Nearly) Done: The walls & trim of the conference room are painted, the ceiling tiles replaced, and the carpet tiles are glued down. It’s just a matter of a few minor touches, including mounting the TV & whiteboard, before the space is ready for groups to be able to use.  We’re hosting a painting party Tuesday evening to get more of the coworking space ready to go – learn more & sign up on Point.

If you have experience with construction, we could really use your help this week with getting walls in place. Please consider a volunteer shift – you can view the list of available shifts, or fill out a volunteer form with your interests and availability.  If these shifts don’t work but you still want to help, reply back or contact Mark and he’ll get you scheduled.

Recently, I (Anna K) gave a presentation to the board of directors to start a group buy to purchase an Xtool P3 CO2 laser to begin replacement of our 3 ULS lasers: Left Shark, Katy Perry, and Right Shark

At this juncture of the Milwaukee Makerspace, it is in our best interest to replace these three lasers.  The oldest of these three was made in 1996 – when I was in the 4th grade.  We have spent hundreds of hours and thousands of dollars to keep these lasers operational over the years.

Each laser requires a CO2 tube that costs almost $3000 to replace.  Left shark’s tube was last replaced in 2013- meaning it is past due for a new tube.

In addition, as compared with new lasers, these machines only have about 14mb of RAM, which seriously stunt’s  our member’s capabilities.

Xtool is the leading laser manufacturer for hobbyists.  Last year, we purchased the Xtool F1 Ultra fiber/diode laser, and the ease of use and capabilities are far superior to that of the ULS lasers we currently have.

Some features of the P3:

• 80W CO2 laser
• Integrated water chiller (unlike our BOSS lasers which have a large exterior water chiller
• 36×18 bed (which is larger than Katy Perry.
• Can cut 1/2″ material
• Free software that members can download onto their own computers
• Dual cameras for auto-positioning
• Flame and smoke sensors and a CO2 cartridge to put out fires automatically
• LiDar system for auto-focusing and auto-focusing while working (think wine glasses)
• Conveyor system for larger sheets of material

Der regelmäßige Projekteabend findet am 09.12.25 im HQ statt. Woran arbeitet ihr zurzeit? Bringt eure Projekte mit! Kleine Projekte, große Projekte, alles ist erwünscht. Ihr könnt auch Mitstreitende für eure Projekte suchen wenn ihr wollt.

Auch dieses Jahr laden wir euch wieder herzlich zum Congress Everywhere in den Chaospott ein! Parallel zum 39. Chaos Communication Congress (39C3) ist unser Hackerspace am 27. und 28. Dezember geöffnet.

Unsere Türen öffnen an beiden Tagen um 10 Uhr.

Wir schauen gemeinsam das Vortragsprogramm des 39C3, basteln an Projekten und quatschen über Technikthemen. Eine gute Gelegenheit, den Chaospott kennenzulernen. Gäste sind herzlich willkommen.

Der 39C3 ist auch von Essen aus wie im Flug vergangen. Über die zwei Tage hinweg nutzten 15 Gäste die Gelegenheit, den Chaospott kennenzulernen. Wir haben gemeinsam die Streams geschaut und Zeit zum Quatschen gehabt. Besonders interessant fanden wir den Talk über die Miele-Geräte, da wir uns intensiv mit Heimautomatisierung und Home Assistant beschäftigen. Was wir bereits in unsere Home Assistant-Installation eingebunden haben, könnt ihr in der Folge Home Assistant II der Sibyllinischen Neuigkeiten nachhören.

Die Pausen zwischen den Streams wurden für den Aufbau mehrerer Blinkenrockets genutzt. Die Bauteile waren mithilfe der Doku schnell verlötet, und dann ging es an das Erstellen von Animationen.

Insgesamt blicken wir auf ein gelungenes Everywhere-Event mit Technik, Austausch und einer guten Portion Chaos zurück und bedanken uns bei allen helfenden Händen, die den 39C3 möglich gemacht haben.

Dans le cadre de la Semaine Européenne de la Réduction des Déchets, Effusion Lucé et Betamachine vous invitent à la 9ᵉ édition de la Fête de la Récup’.

Venez à la rencontre des associations, entreprises et créateurs locaux engagés dans le réemploi, la réparation et la récup’. Au programme:

Collecte de pain, d’appareils électriques et électroniques, de piles et de batteries. Réparation de vélos et de vos objets cassés (petit électroménager, hifi, etc.).

Vente d’objets et de vêtements de seconde main.

Ateliers de récup’ créative: gravure sur tétrapak, confection de décors de Noël en tissus, mosaïque, etc..

Animations: partage de recettes anti-gaspi, énigmes de Merlin autour de la Récup’, démonstrations d’upcycling, etc..

Restauration sur place: La remorque de Gab (Burger), crêpes et bar associatif.

On November 9, 2025, we held a workshop at the Gesamtschule Osnabrück-Schinkel. During the evacuation due to the bomb disposal in the Lokviertel, participants had the opportunity to learn the basics of programming with Python and get creative with "Pixelflut".

The workshop was a great success. Many of the participants had little or no prior experience with programming.

Helsinki Hacklab ry:n sääntömääräinen syyskokous järjestetään sunnuntaina 30.11.2025, klo 14. Kokous järjestetään yhdistyksen tiloissa Takkatie 18, Helsinki.

Tausta:
HackLabin koneiden käyttökoulutukset ovat nykyisin satunnaisia ja vaikeasti ennakoitavia, mikä hidastaa uusien jäsenten pääsyä koneiden käyttäjiksi. Jotta koulutukset olisivat saavutettavissa, avoimia ja paremmin koordinoituja, ehdotetaan parannuksia laitekoulutukseen

Ehdotus:
Tavoitteena on:
• Laatia konekohtaiset koulutusohjeet ja tavoitteet .
• Järjestää koulutuksia säännöllisesti, dokumentoidusti ja tarpeen mukaan.

Päätösehdotus:
Jos vuosikokous puoltaa ohjelman käynnistämisen, minä, Jaakko Nisula, tarjoudun suunnittelemaan, koordinoimaan ja myös toteuttamaan mahdollisuuksieni mukaan tätä koulutusohjelmaa.
