How to set up a file for cutting on the laser cutter in Inkscape or Adobe Illustrator.Laser cutter safety including materials testing.Laser cutter operation including configuration, cuts and raster etching in common materials like wood, acrylic, cardboard and others.At the end of class, you will go home with:

Wie in Repair-Cafes üblich: Wir liefern den technischen Sachverstand, Rat und auch Tat. Wir helfen wo wir können – aber du musst selbst Hand anlegen und mitmachen – denn das ist der Grundgedanke der Sprechstunde.

Participants will learn about Internet of Things technology by building a pair of Love Messengers, which make a great gift.In this Valentine's Day-special class, participants will build their very own pair of Love Messengers: a perfect gift for friends, partners and loved ones 💞.

Love Messengers are two IoT devices that are connected to each other via a real-time database. When one Love Messenger is pressed, the other will light up, no matter how far apart they are. The class will provide all materials, and playfully introduce Internet of Things technology, basic coding (C++), electronics, and fabrication techniques. At the end of the class, everyone gets to take their love messengers home as a gift for a loved one.

No prior experience necessary.
Bring your own laptop!

The class is $20/person, but we want our workshop to be accessible to everyone. If the $20 ticket is a barrier for you, we’d be happy to sponsor it—just let us know by reaching out to us at yiqing.ng@gmail.com.

Pepi and Julia are two NYC-based creative technologists passionate about open-source projects. “Love Messengers” is our first fully open-source tech project - over the years, we've refined its code and fabrication, and have taught this workshop at events like Siggraph 2024, Parsons Dorkshop and NYC Resistor.

Participants will learn about Internet of Things technology by building a pair of Love Messengers, which make a great gift.In this Valentine's Day-special class, participants will build their very own pair of Love Messengers: a perfect gift for friends, partners and loved ones 💞.

Love Messengers are two IoT devices that are connected to each other via a real-time database. When one Love Messenger is pressed, the other will light up, no matter how far apart they are. The class will provide all materials, and playfully introduce Internet of Things technology, basic coding (C++), electronics, and fabrication techniques. At the end of the class, everyone gets to take their love messengers home as a gift for a loved one.

No prior experience necessary.
Bring your own laptop!

The class is $20/person, but we want our workshop to be accessible to everyone. If the $20 ticket is a barrier for you, we’d be happy to sponsor it—just let us know by reaching out to us at yiqing.ng@gmail.com.

The instructors:
Pepi and Julia are two NYC-based creative technologists passionate about open-source projects. “Love Messengers” is our first fully open-source tech project - over the years, we've refined its code and fabrication, and have taught this workshop at events like Siggraph 2024, Parsons Dorkshop and NYC Resistor.

In this three hour class, you will learn:
How to set up a file for cutting on the laser cutter in Inkscape or Adobe Illustrator.Laser cutter safety including materials testing.Laser cutter operation including configuration, cuts and raster etching in common materials like wood, acrylic, cardboard and others.At the end of class, you will go home with:

Everyone wraps their books so the titles and covers are not visible. You write a few bullet points about why someone would want to read the book. The bullet points can be as simple or specific as you want i.e. "British" or "queer sci fi about lesbian alien lovers." You also write the name and the title on the back of the book (so that no one takes a book they've read before).Once all of the books are wrapped, we lay them out and read the descriptions to scheme for books you're interested in. Then we go in rounds picking a book. If you brought 1 book, you pick a book the first round. If you brought 5 books, you pick books the first 5 rounds.When everyone's got their books, we spend time chatting about what books we got / brought / have loved lately.

Who is the event for and what should you bring?
