Join us at NYC Resistor to build a personalized subway countdown clock. This class will introduce the basics of Arduino, electronics, and other important concepts you'll need to join in on the Internet of Things (IoT). We'll use a WiFI connected Arduino microcontroller to pull down real time subway data and display it to a LCD/LED character display. Never be late for a subway again**!

Wir machen weiter!!!

Am 09.02.2020 möchten wir gemeinsam mit Dir (wieder) die Nadeln tanzen lassen. Komm mit Deiner Nähmaschine zu Deiner (nächsten) Außenmission in die UN-Hack-Bar.
Ab 11 Uhr wollen wir mit dem Projekt "Kinderkleidung" beginnen. Natürlich bist Du auch willkommen, wenn Du ein anderes Projekt im Sinn hast oder es Dir noch kurzfristig ausdenkst.
Wie schon zuvor bestehen keine Anforderungen an Vorkenntnissen der Teilnehmenden. 
In der UN-Hack-Bar ist ausreichend Raum für 8 Personen und Nähmaschinen. Wir besitzen zwei Nähmaschinen die bei Bedarf zur Verfügung gestellt werden können. Daher die Bitte von uns, um vorherige Anmeldung.

Wir treffen uns jeden zweiten Mittwoch zum Thema LoRaWAN/The Things Network (TTN). Im weiteren Sinne geht's also um dieses "Internet of Things" und darüber wollen wir nicht abstrakt faseln, sondern selber machen, ausprobieren was möglich ist und dann gerne auf dieser Basis philosophieren.<br><br>Im vierwöchigen Wechsel gibt's einmal einen "Offenen Abend" und einmal den "Bastelabend":<br>- Beim OFFENEN ABEND haben wir Zeit für alle deine/eure Fragen und Ideen. Alle Anwesenden und das Kernteam erklären gerne alles zum Thema von A bis Z. Manchmal gibt's zum Anfang vielleicht sogar einen Vortrag.<br>- Beim BASTELABEND soll Zeit sein an konkreten Projekten zu arbeiten. Hier ist natürlich auch jeder willkommen und vor allem könnt' ihr eure eigenen Bastelprojekte mitbringen um daran zu arbeiten - Werkzeug und Unterstützung ist vorhanden. Evtl. hat das Kernteam an diesem Abend nur nicht Zeit Neulingen alle Grundlagen ganz in Ruhe zu erklären, was aber keinen vom Reinschauen abhalten soll.<br><br><br>Es gibt auch Leihgeräte und wirklich günstige Bausätze um eigene Nodes aufzubauen. This is not your typical craft class. Make-Along is a self-guided craft workshop where participants learn new skills, explore new materials, and make great things!

Let's Make Snow Globes!
How was your valentines day? Magical? Come commemorate it by creating a cheery, romantic snow globe with swirling fake snow and pink glitter. Was your Valentines Day a disaster? Work through those feelings in snow globe form too! Perhaps a solo animal sits in a barren wasteland, getting rained on by blackness when its world is shaken. Is Valentines Day bullshit anyway? Don't need it? Maybe you create a snow globe with a solo figure or animal in a cheerful landscape because it's found existentialism and now understands that it is the sole creator of value in its own world, which is the root of empowerment and contentment.  February is blah. We'll keep things cozy with free hot chocolate and experimental s'mores made with a heat gun (hat tip to the gingerbread smash make-along for the idea). Come get out of the cold, make things, and have fun with us.
All materials will be provided, but feel free to bring your own items to fill the globes with!

<p>In diesem Workshop, der im Rahmen des regelmäßigen F.U.C.K-Treffens (Frauen und Computerkram – für alle, die sich zumindest hauptsächlich als weiblich identifizieren) stattfindet, zeigt euch Maike, wie man lötet!</p><p>Ihr lernt an einem kleinen Arduino-Projekt nicht nur wie man ordentlich lötet und worauf dabei zu achten ist, sondern auch, wie ihr das Ganze dann an den Microcontroller anschließt und steuert. Artist and printmaker Sarah Holden will take you on an introductory tour of Lino cutting. Beginning with designing and then how to cut and print a single colour image. This workshop is designed to give you the skills to make and create your own print making project at home, or to build the foundations of your wonderful journey into the world of print making.Spend an afternoon taking the initial steps into the world of lino cutting. You will learn how to cut a piece of A6 lino and print it onto different kinds of paper. Sarah will provide all materials needed, you just need to bring some inspiration and an apron!

Calling all knitters, crocheters, weavers, and fiber artists! We're holding our annual yarn destash party. We pile all the yarn on the table and it's all free to take. Cast off some of your old yarns, hook up with some new yarns, and get cozy with your fellow yarn hoarders.
New knitters and crocheters looking to build their stash are especially encouraged to attend - it's OK if you don't have any yarn to give up.
Partial skeins and project leftovers are OK too.
Bring your stash to share while enjoying good company and tea. And if you have ideas for stash-busting projects, bring them along.

Cut and Etch Your Own Designs with Our Laser Cutter

These classes fill up, reserve your spot now!
Harness the power of an Eplilog 60 Watt Laser! In this class you'll learn everything you need to know to make the ideas in your head become a reality with a laser.

In this three hour class, we'll walk through all the steps from idea to pressing the "go" button on the laser. We'll cover safety, basic file preparation, and learn how to do a burninate test to find out if a material is laserable. After the three hours, you'll have made a plaque for your door, a keychain, a simple box or something slightly ambitious. (There is lab time for laser cutting, questions and answers, and working with Inkscape, Illustrator, Corel Draw, etc.)

After learning the basics, each student will create a simple design and cut it on the laser! A $10 lab fee is included in the ticket price and covers your time on the laser cutter to cut and etch. We have a variety of scrap material to experiment with or you can purchase laserable acrylic, Delrin, illustration board, leather, or wood. Midwest and Revell make a variety of plywood, bass and balsa that is perfect for laser cutting. The bed size of our laser is 32" x 20" so buy materials accordingly. Keep in mind that large-scale, complex, multi-cut projects may not be appropriate for the class. Our goal is to teach you how to use the tool, not how to reinvent the Sistine Chapel in one afternoon.

Please bring a laptop and a USB jump drive. You may choose to upload and install Inkscape or a free trial of Adobe Illustrator before you come to class to get familiar with the software and start on a vector design project.
This class is required for coming in to do work on the laser independently. If you get inspired, you can come back and laser your objects on our Monday or Thursday Craft Nights. (See our website for more info.)
