Eins zog sich immer wie ein roter Faden durch fast alles, was in Ulm geschah: Immer gab es irgendetwas zum Thema Mobilität und öffentlichem Nahverkehr. Wir wollen uns im Rahmen des OK Lab Ulm im etwa-monatlichen-Zyklus wieder ganz besonders mit offenen Daten rund um Mobilität beschäftigen. Zum Auftakt des Mobilitätsmontags am 4.2.2019 ab 18:00 Uhr haben wir eine ganze Reihe neuer Interessierter aus Ulm und Neu-Ulm zusammengetrommelt, die sich für die Verknüpfung von IT und Mobilität begeistern – aus der Forschung aus Uni und Hochschule, aus der Civic-Tech-Bewegung, und auch aus diversen Verwaltungsteilen. Allen gemeinsam: Sie treffen sich nicht, weil sie müssen, sondern weil sie wollen – und der Fokus liegt auf dem Machen, nicht dem Wollen 😉

Wir möchten beim Auftakt ausprobieren, was wir uns in Zukunft für diese Termine vorstellen: Ein kurzer Vortrag zu einem spannenden Thema oder aktuellen interessanten Forschungspapern, natürlich auf Video festgehalten. Danach Austausch, Inspiration sammeln, und ggf. auch zünftig hacken.

OSM ÖPNV-Mapathon

Am Samstag, den 9. Februar 2019 findet zwischen 10:00 und 18:00 Uhr ein Mapathon des Ulmer OSM-Stammtisches statt. Schwerpunkt ist der ÖPNV im SWU- und DING-Gebiet, also der öffentliche Nahverkehr in Ulm, um Ulm und um Ulm herum.<br><br>Die Haltestellen und Linien im Gebiet der Stadtwerke Ulm und der Donau-Iller-Nahverkehrsverbund-GmbH sind unterschiedlich und nicht vollständig in Openstreetmap erfasst. Ziel des Mapathons ist es, dies zu vereinheitlichen. Dazu liegt ein GTFS-Datensatz der SWU vor. Die SWU haben zugesichert, zum Mapathon weitere Datensätze bereitzustellen (Linienfahrwege als KML-File, Haltestellenpositionen als KML-File, Haltebereiche als KML-File). Es wird versucht, auch für das DING-Gebiet entsprechende Daten zu erhalten. Kaffee, Mate und Stofftiere werden gestellt, Kind, Milch und Windeln sind eigenverantwortlich zu beschaffen.

Laser Cutting: Cut and Etch Your Own Designs with Our Laser Cutter

Harness the power of an Eplilog 60 Watt Laser! In this class you'll learn everything you need to know to make the ideas in your head become a reality with a laser.

In this three hour class, we'll walk through all the steps from idea to pressing the "go" button on the laser. We'll cover safety, basic file preparation, and learn how to do a burninate test to find out if a material is laserable. After the three hours, you'll have made a plaque for your door, a keychain, a simple box or something slightly ambitious. (There is lab time for laser cutting, questions and answers, and working with Inkscape, Illustrator, Corel Draw, etc.)

After learning the basics, each student will create a simple design and cut it on the laser! A $10 lab fee is included in the ticket price and covers your time on the laser cutter to cut and etch. We have a variety of scrap material to experiment with or you can purchase laserable acrylic, Delrin, illustration board, leather, or wood. Midwest and Revell make a variety of plywood, bass and balsa that is perfect for laser cutting. The bed size of our laser is 32" x 20" so buy materials accordingly. Keep in mind that large-scale, complex, multi-cut projects may not be appropriate for the class. Our goal is to teach you how to use the tool, not how to reinvent the Sistine Chapel in one afternoon.

Please bring a laptop and a USB jump drive. You may choose to upload and install Inkscape or a free trial of Adobe Illustrator before you come to class to get familiar with the software and start on a vector design project.
This class is required for coming in to do work on the laser independently. If you get inspired, you can come back and laser your objects on our Monday or Thursday Craft Nights. (See our website for more info.)

Pick Your First Lock! February Make-Along

This is not your typical craft class.
February's Topic:  Lock-Picking!
This month we will be learning and practicing the basics of lock picking. Come join us to build your working knowledge of locks and better understand physical security, to discover a fun puzzle-solving genre that doubles as a fidget activity, or to simply play out your spy fantasies in a safe and legal setting.
We will briefly cover how typical locks work and how to open locks using the common techniques of raking and single-pin picking.
Included in the cost of this Make-Along:-A minimal lock pick set-A cut-away practice padlock
Go home and practice even more!

Are you a beginner?  We'll provide materials including lock picks, cut-away locks, and a variety of other locks to try and Ocean's 11!
Are you a master?  Show off your skills and inspire others!  Bring a project, use our materials and hang out in a great space while doing what you love.

Intro to Soldering Workshop: Make an LED Tile

Soldering is one of the most important skills you'll need for working with electronics. Come join us for an introductory through-hole soldering workshop. Soldering enables you to create sturdy connections between electrical components.

In this hands-on workshop, you'll learn how to use a soldering iron safely and effectively, and get plenty of practice with both soldering and desoldering techniques. We'll be soldering up some Game of Life kits - LED tiles that generate nifty animations.

No previous experience is required, making this introductory workshop a great choice for anyone who's curious about getting started with hardware tinkering! All materials will be provided.

This class will be taught by Resistor members Astrida Valigorsky and Widget DiMauro.

Wikidata-Workshop

Nach dem Erfolg des ersten beiden Wikidata-Workshops (Dez 2016, Juni 2017) mit den Open Knowledge Labs wollen wir diesen auch 2019 wiederholen.

Im Gegensatz zu 2017 werden wir kein festes Thema vorgeben, sondern eurer Kreativität freien Lauf lassen. Die Bandbreite die Wikidata von Politikern, Wahlen, dem Zusammenleben in Städten zu Lexikografischen Daten soll voll ausgenutzt werden. Parallel zum klassischen Hackathon-Format wird es niedrigschwellige Einführungen zum Thema Wikidata sowie tiefergehende Vorträge zu Wikidata und SPARQL geben. Open-Data-Aktivistinnen und -Aktivisten und Wikipedianer- und Wikipedianerinnen hacken und editieren dann zwei Tage rund um Wikidata.
