Datenjournalismus: Praxis und Perspektiven

Überall in der digitalen Welt entstehen mit jedem Thema neue Daten. Mit der Dynamik der Open-Data-Bewegung wächst die Menge an Datensätzen, auf die die Öffentlichkeit zugreifen kann. Als Recherche-, Analyse und Darstellungsform gewinnt Datenjournalismus zunehmend an Bedeutung. Mit den richtigen Methoden und Werkzeugen sowie technischem Know-how spüren Datenjournalisten überraschende Geschichten auf. Neben journalistischen Kompetenzen erfordern gute Daten-Storys auch Kenntnisse in Statistik, Webtechnologie, Grafikdesign oder Usability.
Die Veranstaltung zeigt an Praxisbeispielen, welche Methoden und Werkzeuge zur Verfügung stehen und leicht anzuwenden sind. Außerdem werden die Perspektiven des Genres als journalistisches Format und Berufsbild diskutiert. Die Veranstaltung bildet den Auftakt für den OPEN! Minds Excellence Club (OMEx). Im Rahmen des OMEx werden Diskussionsforen zu den Themen der OPEN! – Konferenz für digitale Innovation (www.openkonferenz.de) angeboten.

Zukunftsstadt 2030 - Workshop Gesundheit, Demographie und Alter

Ziel dieses Workshops zum Thema „Gesundheit, Demografie und Alter“ ist
es, Themen und Handlungsschwerpunkte für diesen Bereich zu entwickeln.
Dabei wird aus den Ergebnissen der ersten Planungsphasen von
Zukunftsstadt 2030 zur Fragestellung „Wie wirkt sich Digitalisierung auf
die Alterung der Gesellschaft und auf die Themen der Gesundheit aus“
eingegangen. Als Handlungsfelder wurden hier bereits identifiziert:
- die Verringerung der digitalen Spaltung (digital devide),
- die Inklusion sämtlicher Bevölkerungsgruppen,
- die Förderung eines selbstbestimmten Lebens im Alter sowie
- die Nutzung neuer Technologien in der Gesundheitsvorsorge und der Behandlung.

Neben den bisher gesammelten Ideen und Projektansätzen soll auch ein
Querschnittsprojekt zum Thema „Bürgermentoren für die digitale
Gesellschaft“ vorgestellt und diskutiert werden. Ziel ist es, entlang
der genannten Handlungsfelder bisher unterschiedliche Projektaktivitäten
und Engagementsfelder zu vernetzen und so dazu beizutragen, dass bei der
Entwicklung der Digitalisierung niemand zurückgelassen werden muss.

Dieser Workshop und Arbeitsbereich wird moderiert von
Dr. Markus Marquard, ZAWiW der Universität Ulm.

Laser Cutting: Cut and Etch Your Own Designs with Our Laser Cutter

Harness the power of an Eplilog 60 Watt Laser! In this class you'll learn everything you need to know to make the ideas in your head become a reality with a laser.

In this three hour class, we'll walk through all the steps from idea to pressing the "go" button on the laser. We'll cover safety, basic file preparation, and learn how to do a burninate test to find out if a material is laserable. After the three hours, you'll have made a plaque for your door, a keychain, a simple box or something slightly ambitious. (There is lab time for laser cutting, questions and answers, and working with Inkscape, Illustrator, Corel Draw, etc.)

After learning the basics, each student will create a simple design and cut it on the laser! A $10 lab fee is included in the ticket price and covers your time on the laser cutter to cut and etch. We have a variety of scrap material to experiment with or you can purchase laserable acrylic, Delrin, illustration board, leather, or wood. Midwest and Revell make a variety of plywood, bass and balsa that is perfect for laser cutting. The bed size of our laser is 32" x 20" so buy materials accordingly. Keep in mind that large-scale, complex, multi-cut projects may not be appropriate for the class. Our goal is to teach you how to use the tool, not how to reinvent the Sistine Chapel in one afternoon.

Please bring a laptop and a USB jump drive. You may choose to upload and install Inkscape or a free trial of Adobe Illustrator before you come to class to get familiar with the software and start on a vector design project.
This class is required for coming in to do work on the laser independently. If you get inspired, you can come back and laser your objects on our Monday or Thursday Craft Nights. (See our website for more info.)

I've never tried knitting before!

In diesem Workshop können die Teilnehmenden lernen, OpenStreetMap (ähnlich einer Wikipedia für Karten) kennenzulernen und selbst Änderungen in OSM vorzunehmen. Wir erklären, wie man den OSM-Editor oder die App StreetComplete verwendet und welche Projekte es bereits mit dem Kartenmaterial gibt.

Soldering is one of the most important skills you'll need for working with electronics. Come join us for an introductory through-hole soldering workshop. Soldering enables you to create sturdy connections between electrical components.

In this hands-on workshop, you'll learn how to use a soldering iron safely and effectively, and get plenty of practice with both soldering and desoldering techniques. We'll be soldering up some Game of Life kits - LED tiles that generate nifty animations.

No previous experience is required, making this introductory workshop a great choice for anyone who's curious about getting started with hardware tinkering! All materials will be provided.

This class will be taught by Resistor member Bill Bernsen.

Knitting in the round? With multiple colors? A new kind of cast on or bind off? Two-color brioche stitch? Need help deciphering a pattern or repairing a dropped stitch? Chances are pretty good that we can help with that, too.


What about supplies?
We have plenty of yarn and knitting needles on hand. Just bring yourself!
I don't knit. Can I come and crochet / sew / embroider / weave / needlepoint / etc?
Definitely! (Or, you know, whatever else you'd like - pretty much anything goes.)
Do I need to pay you?
Nope - this event is free & open to the public, as long as you're 18+.
